AAPI artists connected via @JADEDpgh use the creative process to explore layered identities and stories, while making space for dreams, grief, and connection. Through painting, sculpture, sound, film, wood, glass, and textiles, the artists reflect on messages held in their bodies, personal histories, and memories.
The exhibition's opening reception includes a Kintsugi Grief Bowls workshop with artist Kiyomi Knox, which uses the Japanese practice of repairing broken pottery with gold to symbolize the beauty that can exist in brokenness. Performing artist Arieux meditates on death, loss, and grief with a procession inspired by the ancient Chinese profession of corpse walkers.

Led by women and non-binary artists, JADED is Pittsburgh's first AAPI artist collective celebrating AAPI art & culture in Pittsburgh.
Remind Me, My Dream is curated by Sara Tang in partnership with JADED and commissioned by KST in conjunction with @ma_ma_lia Maree ReMalia's WITH OURSELVES, WITH EACH OTHER, world premiering Oct 23 & 24! Tickets on KST's website!

When the despair caught in my throat in the middle of the night, and I started choking on the (irrational but understandable) feeling that half the country doesn't want me to exist, I suddenly remembered what it was I had to do tonight, and I started to catch my breath. Just like in 2016, I had the distinct feeling that being with people would help me get my mind right. And then there we were, showing up one by one, the weavers (and Hollen!). Some expected, some not, all just kind of needing this. Taking hundreds of threads that look like a knotted mess with no end in sight and snapping them back into place, not with force and not with fretting, but with calm confidence, knowing the knots are an illusion. With just the right amount of tension. And with each other. Each of us with a role to play, laughing, joyful, together. Trying new things, making do with what we had, working towards the same goals - to create, to support, to grow. We will be the light. In your communities - whatever that means to you - you'll make it happen. But be easy on yourself. Take the day. The days. All the time you need. Know that creating isn't always a fight. It can be light. It can be the light.
