‘Pursuing Possibilities: Explorations in Glaze’ closes September 13!

Curated by Emily Lin ’26, the exhibition brings together art and science to explore how ceramic glazes shape the color, texture, and surface of works from the #TangCollection.

Using X-ray fluorescence (XRF) to analyze the chemical makeup of glazes, Emily drew on her studies in Art History, Studio Art, and Chemistry to examine the possibilities and surprises of the glazing process.

Stop by before 5 pm on Sunday and learn more about Emily’s research in the exhibition booklet! A young woman stands in a bright gallery, examining a green-and-black abstract sculpture on a white platform. In the foreground, a tall brown-and-gray sculpture with a bulbous top and narrow cylindrical base sits beside an orange-brown textured sculpture. Behind her, more sculptural objects are displayed on platforms or hung on the wall.

Remembering artist and teacher David Miller. David was a huge force for good across four decades at @SkidmoreCollege. He was always a generous and upbeat collaborator, and mentored scores of students in the @skidmoreart painting studios and also importantly at the @schick_gallery. His solo exhibition at the Tang in the Wachenheim Gallery during the museum’s first year was a great celebration for our entire community. He is deeply missed.

Dense dark scribbles gather across the center, surrounded by floating forms, including a yellow spotted oval, red circular shapes, a blue rectangle, and pale curved forms outlined in black.

This was a piece selected by Skidmore College in 1992 from my Class of 1992 Exhibit to remain at Skidmore College in their permanent collection. What an honor! Oil on Canvas. Still there. I believe that is currently hanging in Scribner Library. This was my apartment senior year on Broadway, Saratoga Springs. The chair wasn’t red. Red is my favorite color. Color is everything. Life is boring without it. #skidmorecollegepermanentartcollection #skidmorecollegeart #skidmorecollegealumni #skidmoreart #skidmore

Studio art major Oliver Frontini ’26 turned four years of creative growth into “Fringe.” ✨

His senior thesis reflects a Skidmore journey shaped by studio art, a first-year Scribner Seminar, human anatomy, and even post-apocalyptic film and literature.

I am so excited to share my senior art thesis exhibition this Friday! I have been experimenting with new projection and sculpture techniques this semester to create an exhibit exploring conspiracy, sense making, and photo manipulation history. I am so grateful to the art department and all of my professors for this opportunity!

I am very excited to be displaying my final collection of work from my B.A. in Studio Art (Fibers) at @tangteachingmuseum from May 8-16 alongside my talented peers.

I have much appreciation for everyone who has contributed to this journey.
