Motor Control & Learning for Golf

POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

🚨 STOP hitting 20 balls in a row working on the same swing feel!

Just because you can repeat a movement on the driving range doesn’t mean you’ve actually learned it.

One of the biggest mistakes golfers make is confusing short-term performance with long-term learning.

You might be striping it on the range, but can you reproduce that movement tomorrow? Next week? On the 18th hole with something on the line?

That’s where HOW you practice becomes so important.

⛳ Try the 3-BALL RULE.

Work on a specific feel for just 3 balls before changing your focus or practice condition.

The goal? Improve RETENTION and TRANSFER so the changes you’re making in practice actually show up on the golf course.

Don’t just practice to hit better shots. Practice to become a better player.

💬 What’s harder for you: making a swing change or taking that change to the course?

📌 SAVE this for your next range session!

Does your junior golfer want to play college golf? Come get lessons and set some goals at our Junior Golf Academy at @marylandgcc.

The Stable is a program I put together specifically for juniors that want to play competitive golf. We will set goals and work together to build a program to follow to accomplish those goals. For more information go to my website (www.michaelwheelergolf.com) or text/call me (443-841-5438).

Here’s a video explaining how horizontal forces and unweighting elements affect your body orientation, path, and AoA. Now we don’t just want to maximize these elements and I think that is a very important point to take from this video. The goal is to find a healthy balance of these ingredients in order to help your golfer create their ideal shot shape @swingcatalyst @goodstick_golf @skilledcoaching

GROWTH BEGINS WHEN UNCOMFORTABLE BEGINS!

Many students don’t want to be uncomfortable in a lesson. Making a change is not comfortable - but that doesn’t mean it’s not fun still. If something doesn’t feel different then we didn’t change anything. When you watch a good player in a lesson they embrace “different”… they welcome it because they know something changed.

Have a growth mindset in lessons and you’ll be amazed at how much faster you improve.

How can punching and starting a lawnmower fix a REVERSE SPINE at the top? Take a minute and watch how!

@michael_brz_14 was taught by a high school coach to overturn and extend to get the club as deep as he could. This led to A LOT of problem and eventually would have caused him to get hurt.

FIX YOUR SLICE IN MINUTES!! Had a former soccer player on the lesson tee today and fixed a slice in MINUTES after having him show me how to kick a corner kick.

Finding correlations for golfers with athletic backgrounds is so important. First saw this with @john.dunigan and @skilledcoaching. Sometimes understandably the proper concepts is an important and often missed step in a golf lesson.
