June was such a fun month despite all the craziness in DC! So grateful to live in this fun city and have a wonderful community to spend time with 💗 If you think DC is boring, spend more time outside like me 🤪

🏳️‍🌈 Celebrated Pride at @berhtaclub - entering a rave era at 30 ❤️‍🔥
🧸 Saw @chineseamericanbear at @pieshopdc (and got front row hehe)
🛏️ Redid our bedroom and finally upgraded from our college furniture 😵‍💫
🌎 Got inspired at the newly opened @natgeomuseum
🏝️ Spent too many hours watching Love Island US but loved kikiing with all my girls and gays about it ❤️‍🔥

Okay, totally did this Reel on the fly while making my matcha and taking my daily vitamins.

But before we get to today’s Foodie & The Beast, can we talk about Carla Hall for a second?

Last night I attended the world premiere of Please Underestimate Me at Olney Theatre and WOW. Funny, moving, vulnerable, inspiring, and completely captivating. No one should ever underestimate Carla Hall.
Then it was on to today’s show:

🥃 Chris Swonger from DISCUS & Responsibility.org talking spirits and America’s 250th.

🍳 Kelly Singer sharing what’s next for Skillette and her upcoming Georgetown cooking school.

🍄 Chef Daniel Perron of Locavore Restaurant and Gabrielle Cerberville (aka Chaotic Forager/Mushroom Auntie) talking foraging and wild foods.

🏨 William Grace from The Hotel at Arundel Preserve on the future of hospitality.

🍸 And Tuyet Nhi Le and Kevin Lim from NUE Vietnamese Restaurant pouring some seriously delicious cocktails.

How lucky am I?

Catch Foodie & The Beast every Sunday at 11am on 1500 AM or hit the link in bio for the replay.

Spent this past weekend enjoying the nice weather and bopping around the @unionmarketdc neighborhood! If I’m paying these outrageous DC rental prices, might as well take advantage of the place I live 🤷🏻‍♀️

🍹 Drinks at @eleganciadc, a new Latin bar co-owned by @daniellasenior and @wilmervalderrama. The vibe was great and I love that they have some nonalcoholic and food options for people like me!
🍽️ Dinner at @yellowthecafe. I crave this meal all the time and my secret for getting a table is doing a walk-in and then occupying yourself with drinks at a nearby bar - the options are endless at Union Market!
🧑🏻‍🍳Class prep at @skillettecooking. I’ve been helping as a class assistant the past year and it’s been a joy to watch and learn some kitchen skills to advance my home chef abilities. My knife and kitchen management skills have definitely improved along with my love for cooking. I highly recommend this school for the food lovers in your life.

Can’t wait for next weekend… will we actually have 80 degree weather? Catch me on @hilawndc’s or another rooftop near you 🤭

Last year reminded us what’s possible when community comes together with care.

Moments of connection. Shared stories. Spaces created with intention and joy. All in support of mental health.

As we look ahead, we’re carrying that same heart into what’s next.

Planning is underway for this year’s Project Blackbird Gala, and we’re excited to continue building an experience rooted in meaning, creativity, and impact.
More soon. 🤍

Curious about sponsorship opportunities? We’d love to connect! Contact us at partnerships@projectblackbirdinc.org

We welcomed Chefs Payesone and Shiho Hakamata of ZAO Stamina Ramen for a ramen workshop, where almost every element was made from scratch and flavors were developed and layered to perfection.

Chef Payesone grew up in Tokyo with ramen in his life from the beginning, trained at The Culinary Institute of America, cooked in Michelin starred kitchens, and opened ZAO Stamina Ramen in Bethesda in 2021. If you have been to the shop, you know the devotion it inspires. Bowls that sell out, regulars who plan their day around it, and a standard that feels uncompromising.

We're honored that Payesone and Shiho shared their skill and technique with us, making sure we paid attention to all the small details that makes their ramen such a standout.

If you missed the class this time (we're hoping they'll be back for another!), visit ZAO Stamina Ramen, in Bethesda, MD 🍜 It's perfect ramen weather!

Arigato gozaimasu chefs!
