Skin Cancer Take a Hike is so much more than a hike. It’s a five-day philanthropic journey bringing together the American Academy of Dermatology community to raise awareness, support skin cancer prevention, and improve public health.

The impact goes far beyond skin cancer.

🌞 Prevention: Making sun protection, shade, protective clothing, and early detection part of everyday life.

🥾 Movement: Demonstrating how regular physical activity supports cardiovascular health, metabolic health, mobility, and healthy aging.

🌿 Nature: Reconnecting with the outdoors, reducing stress, and appreciating the restorative power of time in nature—while remembering that sun protection still matters.

🥗 Nutrition: Celebrating nourishing food and the role of healthy eating in long-term well-being.

😴 Sleep & recovery: Prioritizing restorative sleep, recovery, and the habits that help us thrive.

What a beautiful evening celebrating 27 years of Skin Spectrum! ✨🥂

From the amazing atmosphere and incredible vendors sharing their knowledge and expertise to the delicious food, drinks, and fabulous mocktail bar, every detail made this open house feel extra special!

But my favorite part? Getting to enjoy a fun night out with my mom and seeing my sister in her element at work! ❤️ It’s always special to see someone you love doing what they’re passionate about.

7 days after AVAVA… and let’s just say my skin had a few things to say. 😂🔥

Redness? Check. ✔️
Swelling? Definitely. ✔️
Breakouts? Oh, we had those too. 🙃

But here’s the thing… healing isn’t always pretty, and that’s okay!

AVAVA works by delivering laser energy beneath the skin to stimulate a remodeling response. And while that process is happening, your skin may have some temporary reactions.

✨ Redness: The heat from the laser triggers an inflammatory response and increases blood flow to the treated areas.

✨ Swelling: Your body’s natural response to the controlled thermal injury can cause temporary fluid accumulation and puffiness, especially around the eyes.

✨ Breakouts: Temporary inflammation, changes to the skin barrier, and heavier products used during recovery can contribute to clogged pores and acne flare ups.

I’m sharing my REAL healing journey because I think it’s important to show more than just the beautiful before and after photos.

Each day, my redness, swelling and breakouts gradually improved, and by day 7, my skin was looking and feeling so much better!

And remember, day 7 is not the final result! Collagen remodeling takes time, and I’m excited to see how my skin continues to improve over the coming weeks and months.

MY POST AVAVA MUST HAVES

Post laser care is all about keeping my skin calm, hydrated and supported while it does the work of healing and remodeling. These have been my go to products and tools after AVAVA:

💦 LaserSense Dermal Spray
My immediate post AVAVA go to. LaserSense is a hypochlorous acid spray specifically designed for pre and post procedure skin. Not only does it help cleanse moisten the skin, it also supports irritated or inflamed skin while encouraging the skin’s natural recovery process. I love that I can mist it on throughout those first sensitive days without rubbing or manipulating my skin.

💡 MMSphere2Go
I love incorporating LED after treatment because it gives me a completely noninvasive way to support my skin. The MMSphere2Go has 5 LED colors and 9 different settings designed to target different skin concerns. Post AVAVA, I especially love the red light setting to help calm inflammation while supporting collagen production.

💧 ZO Skin Health Soothing Hydro Mist
Hydration! I mist this throughout the day whenever my skin feels dry, tight or needs a little extra soothing hydration. A go to of mine after any lasers or peels.

🖤 Pavise Bioadaptive Stress Repair
I introduced this at 48 hours post treatment. I used it to give my stressed skin extra barrier and hydration support as I move into the next phase of healing.

✨ Plated Intense
Another one I introduced at 48 hours post treatment. Plated Intense uses platelet derived exosome technology and is one of my favorites for supporting skin renewal and overall skin quality. After a treatment designed to stimulate remodeling, I love incorporating this into my recovery routine.

The goal after AVAVA isn’t to overload my skin. It’s to soothe, hydrate, protect and support it while letting the treatment do its thing. 🙌🏼

POV: the laser provider finally becomes the patient. 👀✨

I’ve been on the other side of this treatment for over a year, so I knew exactly what I was signing up for… including the post treatment puffiness. 😂

There’s something very different about experiencing a treatment yourself after watching so many patients go through it, and I’m excited to finally document the whole process from MY side of the goggles.

Treatment day included plenty of girl talk including dissecting Taylor Swift new songs and sharing all our Avava tips and tricks with each other. No gatekeeping here!

Now comes the part I’m most excited about: watching my skin change over the next several weeks.
