DUST will be out 30th of October 🦂
PRESAVE NOW - LINK IN BIO

This is my first single. Every post about DUST is a contraction until this sonic Scorpio baby pops out on streaming services October 30th. The creation of this single and it’s visual expressions have allowed me to collaborate with creative geniuses and I’m eternally grateful to have had them bless my m3g4verse.

Production:
@skitzbeatz 🧙‍♂️ the greatest of all time thank you for helping me find my sound, allowing my synapse sparks to transmute to song.
@19aydee keeper of the keys 🎹

My Megaboots:
I commissioned @waza_is_back to make me a pair of megaboots. Inspired by a picture of @daphneguinness in a McQueen Armadillo heel, I wanted a pair for myself and when meshed with Waza’s mind they evolved into a wearable art piece, like if DUST turned into a shoe. Made from Moroccan scorpion’s tails, shark hide and scrap metal from forgotten motorbikes.

DUSTmite sfx:
With the spare fish leather and metal nuts, bolts and springs @tildax_x_ adhered these pieces to my body, turning me into DUST mite lady I’ve decided lives in the sands of Nevada.

Cover Art:
@rogerspy effervescent in the brain, created the cover art from a raw image shot by @oliverleone when capturing the megaboots 👠

@marcus._pr general makeup/styling babe, best assistant ever

@eminzada helping me prepare DUST for live audiences

I have soooo much to share with you all, welcome to the m3g4verse.

All my love,
ANABELLE 🦂

By 2006, grime had already evolved at breakneck speed, from pirate radio roots to Mercury-winning acclaim. But behind the hype, cracks were forming: industry pressure, piracy and lack of respect left artists disillusioned as mainstream attention faded. Declared “dead” by some, grime instead adapted; crews turned to DIY mixtapes—burned CDs and MP3 drops that bypassed labels and spoke directly to fans. Rough, raw and uncompromising, these projects captured the genre’s resilience at a turning point.

With that in mind, here’s a selection of underrated mixtapes from grime’s CD-burning, file-sharing boom era. This list isn’t exhaustive: in fact, we’ve purposefully focused on lower-key releases that aren’t necessarily well-represented in the streaming era.

S.K.I.T.Z Beats: Battle Riddim

Undoubtedly S.K.I.T.Z Beatz’s most iconic grime production, Battle Riddim quickly became one of those instrumentals that everyone had a vocal for.

Originally produced on Reason 3 using marching band one shots and Korg Triton drums, and later released as a white label instrumental in 2006, the vinyl also featured a remix from Slew Dem’s Waifer. Vocal versions from Skepta (North London) and Tempa T (East London) soon followed, and it didn’t take long for Battle Riddim to become a staple in sets and a go to riddim for MCs to test themselves on, with countless versions emerging over time. Nottingham’s Mr V (Virgo) created a remix of his own too, which dither added to the instrumentals reach.

As the name suggests, the track draws clear inspiration from battle ready sounds. The tight, rolling snares are reminiscent of marching bands, giving the instrumental its relentless, combative energy.

Interestingly, many of Skepta’s bars on the track were similar (or identical) to those he used during his clash with Devilman at LOTM2, which makes the title Battle Riddim feel even more fitting.

Since his early days producing grime, S.K.I.T.Z Beatz has gone on to create music for the BBC, MTV, Channel 4, Nike, Adidas, and more.

Tim & Barry’s Top 100 - #89 // TEMPA T | TIM & BARRY TV | I-PAR 010 FREESTYLE // Apr 9, 2010
-
Barry: ‘This freestyle was part of a collaboration that we did with @Nike and @tempa_t ’s first appearance on this list, but far from the last, with a banger produced by @skitzbeatz .’
Tim: ‘This location was a nod to a video that we'd shot a year or two before, it was in the same alleyway that we shot the smash scene in Next Hype, where Tempz smashes the window of the car in with the baseball bat…’
Barry: ‘and, that car… the car that's in the shot, and it's also in the first Tim and Barry TV, “dickhead ting”, and that wasn't by mistake. We did that on purpose,so that it kept on appearing in God knows how many freestyles…But Yeah, it's my old mid-90s golf,’
Tim: ‘For about 2 years we were shooting Tim & Barry TVs with that car, and the immobilizer stopped working, so every time we got into the car, it would take about 5 to 10 minutes to start, and you'd have to take the immobiliser apart and, like, rub the battery on the thing. Do you remember that?’
Barry: ‘Yeah… That car probably has the most cameos in Tim and Barry TVs ever.
I mean, look we've only gone through the first 10, and it's already appeared twice. So… It's probably gonna appear more times than any MC.’

Feeling a huge amount of gratitude that I get to spend all summer playing live in different countries 💖 this has been a dream for so so long and to be honest there hasn’t been that many signs externally to keep pushing, but very excited to finally get to take this next step.
This was the first time I performed my show back in October and I put it on in the hospital where I live with help from some amazing friends. I invited a few industry people without telling them this wasn’t even a music venue but an old waiting room in a disused hospital which we’d spent days cleaning and making into something cool. Luckily that sparked the first few shows this year and things have really started to happen. Super thankful to everyone who’s been encouraging me the whole way 💓
