Education, but in the way that works for your family.

For the past three years, we’ve been travelling for work. We try to keep as much of it as possible within school holidays, but inevitably some trips spill into term time too.

This year, our boys missed 38 school days between them - 19 days each.

But the thing is, this isn’t just us taking them out of school because of our job. This is how we want to educate our kids and ultimately a big part of why we choose this job in the first place: learning from the world, experiencing different places and cultures, and spending as much time together as a family as we can before they’re grown.
We’ve seen how much they’re thriving through being educated in a slightly less traditional, mixed way.

In reality, they haven’t missed that much school, and when they are away, their learning doesn’t stop. They continue with maths and reading, work on projects they’re genuinely interested in and learn so much simply through being somewhere new.

They’re both doing incredibly well - socially, academically and in themselves.

Everyone is allowed to have an opinion on it, but for us, our boys are proving that full-time schooling isn’t necessarily the only way for every child to receive a brilliant education.

Less school doesn’t mean less education or fewer opportunities. For our family, it has very clearly meant more.

So yes, perhaps we are trying to have our cake and eat it - finding a way for them to have the stability of school alongside all the opportunities travel brings.

If you feel the same, you’re in the right place.

Our first hosted ski trip! ⛷️

Are you coming?

If you watched the video and thought, we’re in! please send us an email to adventuresofthewests@gmail.com including:

Your name, party size, phone number and confirm you’re ready to pay a £200pp deposit to secure your place.

A few more things you may need to know -

- The trip is 3 nights from 25th February in Les Gets, France.

- Les Gets is a brilliant family ski resort. It has a lovely village feel, great ski schools, fun ski areas for kids, and access to the Les Gets–Morzine ski area with 120km of pistes.

This is a hosted trip, not a guided ski trip. We’ll be there with our boys, staying in the chalet too, and we’ll arrange meet ups, lunches/après and chalet time, but we won’t be acting as ski guides or instructors.

- The price is from £783pp and includes catered chalet accommodation and return airport transfers. The final price will depend on room type and occupancy.

- The ideal flights would be out as early as possible on Thursday 25th February and home as late as possible on Sunday 1st March, so you can make the most of the long weekend and potentially ski on the travel days too.

You don’t have to ski on travel days though, you could absolutely just use one or both as travel/chalet days.

Please don’t book flights until Ski Weekends has confirmed your place and the transfer-compatible flight times.

Ski hire, lift passes, lessons and flights are not included.
Your holiday will be booked directly through @skiweekends , not through us. We’re collecting the details of interested families first, then Ski Weekends will contact you directly to confirm details and take your deposit.

If you have any questions, or would be interested in a different type of trip, please ask below or DM us.

Save this video for your next trip to Tignes-Val d’Isère ⛷️

Here is Part 2 -

This section of Tignes is better (in my opinion) - the snow evens out that bit more and although the piste is still super steep it’s actually a much more enjoyable run.

Would you ski this one? ⛷️

Falling down the toughest black run in Tignes 👆

Would you try this run? ⛷️

This run is called Sache and it’s found on the Tignes side of Tignes-Val d’Isère - this is a gruelling 10km black run that takes you from the Aiguille Percée (2700m) to Tignes Les Breviérès (1550m).

What makes this run so difficult?

Firstly - it’s ungroomed.

The piste bashers do not touch this run - it’s completely au natural. This makes it more difficult as it is constantly choppy which makes it tough to find a rhythm as you’re avoiding moguls and clumps of hard snow.

Secondly - it’s long.

Sache is 10km in length - which means you have to keep your concentration for a very long time.

And if you don’t? This is what happens 👆

This is how much it actually cost us to do a short family ski break in peak season ⛷️

We did 3 nights in a shared catered ski chalet in Les Gets, travelling just before half term, and managed to pack in what felt like a huge amount of skiing without missing a full week of school.

Everything is broken down in the video, but a couple of extra bits worth knowing:

Flights were even cheaper when we looked a week earlier - we found them for £634 total.

You can book a 3 night break in the same chalet from £421 per person later this ski season

For us, this worked so well:
✔️ peak-season skiing
✔️ almost 4 full days on the mountain
✔️ cooked breakfast, afternoon tea, packed lunches + evening meals included
✔️ no school fines
✔️ under £1k per person on this trip

This trip was a PR stay with Ski Weekends in their shared catered ski chalet right in the centre of Les Gets (we’ve been away with them 3 times now and genuinely love how easy they make ski trips).

If you’d like the details, comment “chalet les gets” and we’ll send you the link plus a discount code you can use on any of their ski holidays this season or next (valid until 1st March).

Would you consider a short ski break like this with kids? 🤍
