Baja Divide sections 17-20 Cape Loop from La Paz Round 7 of photos from my #bajadivide ride Nov/Dec 2022. Nigel and I took a rest day in La Paz with Liz and Carlos @bajapiouch to celebrate Nigel's birthday. We had a casual morning before making the climb out of La Paz. We were able stay the night behind a lovely cafe. The next day we made it down the other side and detoured into La Ventana. We camped with many gringo wind surfers, caught the World Cup final and set off again. We spent the night in the yard of a sports bar with good margaritas. The next day we rejoined with Steve @skmillar345 at a pickle ball resort, who knew such things existed. We spent a night on the beach before climbing into the hills the next day. We spent just one night up in the hills before dropping back to the bustle of San Jose del Cabo. We didn't spend long here before climbing through the next mountain range. We had a nice quiet night before descending back to the coast and working our way up to Todos Santos and a night at the hostel. We climbed back into the mountains for a chilly final night (it dropped below freezing). The final couple days my rear tire was holding air for a continually decreasing time as the rubber started to separate where chain lube had dripped on it for the last couple of months. The final day Nigel and I parted ways with Steve and began the descent to La Paz, routinely stopping to add air to my tire. During one of these stops @katuntours spotted us and stopped. He was headed to La Paz and gave us a ride to town saving some of the dispair from the tire trouble. We found the cape loop very touristy, though not without some remote areas. This makes a nice accessible loop for people not ready to commit to as remote and rugged of a ride as the full Baja Divide. We enjoyed some time in La Paz with Liz and Carlos while some others we had met earlier made it to town. We spent New Year's with @john.tennlo and Miles before Nigel left with them for Mexico City. After a few more days and a visit with Nora I flew back home where Terri @terriattridgephotography picked me up.

Baja Divide sections 14-15 Mulegé to Ciudad Constitución Round 5 of photos from my #bajadivide ride Nov/Dec 2022. We took another zero day in Mulegé and enjoyed town. We said goodbye to John @john.tennlo and set off as a group of 4. After one day we had to say goodbye to Eli @eliseward11 as well. We turned back into the mountains, and the next couple of days would prove to be some of our rainiest. With this rain came mud. One evening we stopped after some terrible mud, while setting up camp Steve's bike @skmillar345 fell over. Upon inspection, the derailleur cage had snapped. We took a section out of his chain and got the bike going as a single speed. He would be able to bail off the route the next day into a town for a replacement. After a morning of hike a bike up and coast down, including a stop at a ranch where we were invited in for coffee, we reached a paved section where Steve left us. Though he was able to get it repaired quickly, it would be several days before he caught back up. The next couple of days had more river crossings, though not as plentiful as the prior section had involved. This stretch also passed by several old missions which were great sights to see. The final portion dropped out of the mountains and into the flats on the way to the city. We had a fun night in a small agricultural town after we finally located a place to get beer.

Baja Divide sections 11-13 Vizcaíno to Mulegé Round 4 of photos from my #bajadivide ride Nov/Dec 2022. We took another zero day on Vizcaíno while Ian's Bikes rebuilt Nigel's fork, while resting in town John @john.tennlo and Eli @eliseward11 caught up to us. The next day we left town as a group of 5 headed for San Ignacio. It was only one night out then back into town at La Casa Del Cyclista. We decided to take another day off here, it was a nice spot, and we were joined by 3 Germans touring south on the highway with some entertaining stories. Steve @skmillar345 left ahead of the rest of us and we wouldn't catch him again until Mulegé several days later. The route began paved, then turned to dirt as we neared the coast. In El Dátil a diver prepared fresh clams for us. Then we headed into the mountains to cross the peninsula again. The passage through the mountains involved many river crossings that our drivetrains didn't care for, especially with sand added at the far side of most crossings. The stretch was beautiful, and the ranchers very friendly and welcoming. We stayed one night with Carmelo at Rancho La Rinconada, we really enjoyed our time with him and hearing his talks (what we could understand) from his long time living in this valley along the river.
