The first three performances of AS YOU LIKE IT are in the bag at Darcelle XV Plaza, and we can officially feel the magic. 🌹✨

Thank you to everyone who has come out and filled the plaza with us — we’ve been so full the last two nights that our friends at @downtown_cleansafe had to go find us more chairs! ❤️ There is something pretty magical about doing Shakespeare under the stars and colorful sails of @darcellexvplaza and we’re so grateful to be bringing a little joy and storytelling to the heart of @downtownpdx

We have two more chances to join us this weekend — TONIGHT + tomorrow (Labor Day) at 7 PM. Then we’re taking Tuesday + Wednesday off before coming back Thursday, Friday + Saturday for our final three shows. Five more chances to meet us in the Forest of Arden! 🌿

We perform rain or shine, and if Portland decides to give us a little weather, we have tents to keep our audience dry. ☔️

A few things to know:
🌿 The show is Pay What You Will, but please reserve in advance so we know how many chairs to put out!
⏰ Runtime is under two hours, no intermission.
🍷 Wine from @ponzivineyards available on site.
🍴 Food from @theflockpdx available on site.

Tickets at the link in bio. We can’t wait to see you tonight! 🌿🌹

We’re taking the Forest of Arden to wine country. 🌿🍷

After our two-week run of As You Like It at @darcellexvplaza we’re heading just 40 minutes outside Portland for one final, one-day-only celebration: As You Like It: A Vineyard Finale at @ponzivineyards !

On Sunday, September 13, join @ardenportland , Ponzi Vineyards, and Rose City Stage Company for an intimate four-course vineyard lunch, presented by the culinary teams of Arden and Ponzi, with paired Ponzi wines. Then sit back and enjoy the culminating performance of As You Like It among the vines—our own Oregon version of Shakespeare’s Forest of Arden.

And there’s one more special guest at the table: Macy Seelochan. @macyseemacydo —assistant director of our production and acclaimed British actor whose credits include Shakespeare’s Globe, the National Theatre, and BBC’s Riot Women—will join us for an intimate lunchtime conversation about Shakespeare, performance, and bringing this production to life.

It feels particularly full-circle for all three of us: Arden takes its name from the Forest of Arden in As You Like It, Ponzi is the wine sponsor for our upcoming downtown run, and this one-day-only vineyard finale brings it all together around a table—with great food, great wine, and Shakespeare among the vines.

Your ticket also helps support Rose City Stage Company and our mission to bring bold, accessible classical theater into the heart of our community.

What better way to spend one of the last Sundays of summer?

Sunday, September 13 | Ponzi Vineyards
12pm lunch | 2:30pm performance

Limited seats available. Tickets at the link in bio. 🌿

“And in this harsh world draw thy breath in pain,
To tell my story.”
.
While Hamlet never gets to hear the impacts of his story to the audience, I did. Because this production was story- and actor-centered, it meant the world to hear self-proclaimed “non-Shakespeare people” or first-time-Shakespeare-ers say that they “understood EVERY word.”
.
I’ll remember those who wept with me throughout, laughed with (and at) me, looked me directly in the eyes — which manifested in heart-felt hugs, handshakes, words of empathy and understanding, and tears after curtain. I’ll also remember those who challenged my skill and taught me ways to refine and grow.
.
.
To have Hamlet be my first Shakespearean role in PDX?!

Oh, I learned so much, and I’m so grateful.

Words, words, words can’t quite express this production’s experiences of:
- clarity of thought and how it translates to—
- a deep, direct line of communication and connection to the audience
- truly clowning around and how it gave our Prince joy which allows for an even more tragic end
- embodying the bravery in his vulnerability
- simple presence and gratitude to experience the range of emotions mirrored in the audience
.
TLDR:
Sweet Prince, your story was told.
Sweet Prince, the audience was with you.
Sweet Prince, I thank you for it all.
.
This production lives on in memory, as all plays do. “The rest is silence.”

Blocking rehearsals for a show that will be performed in an Actual House require a lot of map consultations.

It's table work time! Aka Shakespeare Nerd-out Party Time.

Today's topics: pelicans, herbs, poison, and the intricacies of murder plots.
