🏝️ THE KING OF NOTHING👑🕳️
.
PC is an experimental duo formed by musicians and performers Darrie Darkside (@evnston) and Shanti Lalita (@purple.swag) that works with creating unique sonic experiences utilizing collaborative compositions, sound installations and live performances. Their recent work explores themes of deconstruction of societal structures, the oppression and liberation of marginalized bodies, and the reflection/diffraction of external forces in our internal world.
.
For Isles of the Damned, PC will present The King of Nothing, a vision into a grim future where late-stage capitalism has caused environmental collapse, and the only survivor is a corporate King ruling over an empty wasteland under an everlasting storm.

🏝️INSATIABLE SPECIES🐌
.
The pervasive apple snail is known to erode water channels by eating up biofilters and laying thousands of bright pink eggs every two weeks throughout their lifetime. With their growth left unchecked for years, these creatures have grown so hungry that they must now seek…larger prey…
.
Basil (@socrateskitten) is a writer, lyricist and puppeteer who thinks everything should be drizzled in humor. Julie (@scarlett.o.hooray) is an aerialist and puppeteer who generally rocks. Just got home from Edinburgh, where I was co-producing Mel Carter’s @bitch.eat.dog with @cbsanderson at the Edinburgh Fringe. During August, I saw 53 shows, not including 6 of B*tch Eat Dog’s 21 performances, also not including Lorde and Ann Patchett (different events). We ran around the city talking about the show, selling tickets and merch, pitching press, sharing content, answering emails, trying to do our day jobs, and sometimes eating/sleeping/sitting down. Impossible to sum up such an intense, fulfilling, exhausting, thrilling experience. I am so happy and so tired.

I can take no credit for the best part of this experience, which was the unbelievably creative piece @just.sum.shit wrote, B*tch Eat Dog, performed 21 times over the course of August by her, Gail, Ant, and a dizzying array of puppets. While the cast packed down after the show each night, I got good at answering post-show questions from the audience at the merch table. Yes, all the puppets are hand-fabricated by both Mel and other gifted puppeteers she knows. Yes, I agree, the show is astoundingly creative. Yes, it’s definitely quintessentially Fringe. All three of them are indeed unbelievably talented. I also cannot wait to see what they do next.

I highly recommend doing extremely hard things for no good reason other than the love of it. It’s the greatest source of joy in my life.

Wendell Berry’s Mad Farmer Liberation Front Manifesto says:
So, friends, every day do something
that won’t compute. Love the Lord.
Love the world. Work for nothing.
