Last week, after the devastating Texas Hill Country floods, I decided that Animal Rescue and Rehab of Comfort needed to start an Emergency Pet Relief Pantry.

I honestly thought it would be easy.

Last year, when I asked for help, support poured in from every corner of the country. This year… it was different. We put out the call for pet food, and aside from about 15 incredibly generous people, there was almost no response.

So I refused to give up.

I heard “no” 49 times before I finally heard one “yes.” If you need a reminder today, this is your sign not to quit. Keep asking. Keep knocking. Keep believing. Sometimes the one “yes” changes everything.

That yes came from Mark and the incredible team at Canidae Pet Food. While many companies directed me to applications, committees, and processes that would have taken weeks, Mark understood that this was an emergency. His response was simple:

“We’re going to help you right now.”

Because of Canidae’s generosity, they became the only national pet food company to step in with an immediate emergency donation. Their support is providing pet food for five local animal nonprofits affected by the flooding, as well as the Comfort Table & Food Pantry, so families who lost so much don’t have to worry about feeding their pets while they rebuild their lives.

Then came the next challenge…The donation was in Brownwood, and it was over 10,000 pounds of food. My truck simply couldn’t haul that much.

Without hesitation, my longtime friend Kent Fulfer stepped up with his three-quarter-ton truck and made the trip. If it hadn’t been for Kent, I would have been making multiple long drives back and forth. His generosity saved countless hours, fuel, and made this entire effort possible.(Continues in comments)

It’s 9:30 PM and I’m sitting on my porch completely exhausted and completely exhilarated.

Halfway through today, I honestly didn’t think I could keep going. I was tired beyond words. Then Veronica cranked up the music, I danced in the car, slapped my face a few times, yelled into the universe, jumped up and down, drank an energy drink, and somehow found another five hours.

Today was quite possibly the most collaborative, magical, art-making day of my life.

Not just because of the music. Not just because of the video.

But because I got to spend the day creating alongside Crawford, Maddie, Sky, Veronica, Michele, and Danny. Every single one of them brought something special, and together we made something bigger than any one of us could have created alone.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you for being part of this journey, this process, and most importantly, for being my friends. I love every one of you and could not have experienced this moment without you.

I cannot wait for the world to hear Danny’s beautiful new song and the incredible album coming this fall. I have a feeling this project may end up being one of the best things I’ve ever had the privilege to help create.

My heart is full tonight.
Also, thank you Richard for yesterday and thank you Becky for the house and wardrobe selection.
I love you all more than I can say. More than before.
This. This. Is. Life.

It has been exactly 3 months today since baby Naomi came into our lives.

She was named after Naomi Shihab Nye, the poet, and from the very beginning she felt like a little poem I was being trusted to protect.

When Naomi first came here, I truly did not know if she was going to make it. She was only 8 pounds. Her legs needed physical rehab so she could learn to walk, and even after we got through that, she almost died three different times. She had to be hospitalized and receive life-saving care more than once.

Then she had a traumatic accident and had to go right back into the hospital again.

But today, three months later, Naomi is 25 pounds. She has more than tripled her weight, and she is strong, sweet, funny, beautiful, and absolutely perfect.

I am so grateful God brought her into my life. She is one of the biggest blessings in our little rescue family, and I cannot wait to spend her whole life loving her.

If you would like to support my rescue work, please consider making a tax-deductible donation to Animal Rescue and Rehab. Even a monthly donation of $5, $20, or $100 helps us keep saying yes to animals like Naomi.

Anything helps, and every bit means so much.

Naomi is officially convinced… she is not a goat. She is a dog. 🐐🐶

At just two months old, this little Nigerian rescue has decided the only place she belongs is with the dogs. If they’re running, she’s running. If I leave for chores, she’s crying, breaking out, and chasing us down the road like, “WAIT FOR ME, I AM THE HERD.”

And if I try to put her in the car for safety? Absolutely not. She wants OUT so she can run with her pack.

This is what happens when a bottle baby imprints on you and your animals—you don’t just rescue them… you become their whole world.

We’re working on teaching her it’s okay to stay behind (for her safety 😅), but right now she’s just a tiny goat with a very big opinion about where she belongs.

And according to Naomi… she belongs with the dogs. Always. 💛

We are still looking for a couple of used refrigerators to help store the incredible bounty of fresh food we receive each week. Right now, we simply don’t have enough space to keep it fresh as long as we need—and we don’t want any of it going to waste when it could be feeding rescue animals.

We’ve also started a fund for a new refrigerator, and we’ve already received $300 (thank you, Debbie, for your kindness 💛). If you’d like to contribute toward the remaining amount, it would mean so much and make a real difference.

If you have a working refrigerator you’re not using—or would like to help us purchase one—please reach out. Every bit of help goes directly to caring for these animals.

Thank you for supporting Animal Rescue & Rehab of Comfort 🐐🐓💛

Have you been looking for an excuse to get a new refrigerator? This is it—donate the one you don’t love to animals in need 💛

At Animal Rescue & Rehab of Comfort, we’re receiving generous fresh fruit and vegetable donations every single week—and it’s been incredible for the animals’ health 🍓🥕🥬

LAZZY (a.k.a. Lazarus) is especially thrilled… the strawberries are definitely his favorite 🍓💛

But we really need more refrigeration to keep everything fresh throughout the week. We’re currently looking for a couple of used refrigerators AND funding for a new one.

If you have a refrigerator you’d like to donate and you’re anywhere in the Central Texas area—Comfort, Kerrville, Fredericksburg, Center Point, Dripping Springs, or nearby—I would be so happy to come pick it up. A standard refrigerator/freezer combo would be perfect.

After speaking with a trusted friend who specializes in refrigeration, I’ve decided it’s best to purchase a new unit rather than rely only on used ones, so we have something dependable long-term.

If you’re not able to donate a fridge but would like to contribute toward purchasing one, that would be deeply appreciated. We’ve already had $300 donated (thank you Debbie for the kind donation 💛) and are looking to raise $400 more to make this happen.

Every bit of support helps us care for these animals the way they deserve 💛

I know I usually share rescue stories on here… but here’s a little bit about me. 🤍

I met my husband when I was 19.
My college sweetheart.

We were on and off for a decade…
finding our way, growing up, becoming who we were meant to be.

At 32, we finally said yes to forever—
and we’ve been together ever since.

Happy lucky 13, my love.

I fell in love with you within the first two weeks of knowing you…
and somehow, after all these years,
I still feel that same pull toward you.

Through everything—
the chaos, the animals, the rescues, the late nights, the hard days—
you’ve never once questioned my heart.

Every time I say “I have to help this one”…
you’re right there beside me.

You’ve supported my passion, my purpose,
and every animal that has come through our lives—
even when it wasn’t easy.

That kind of love is rare.
And I don’t take it for granted.

You’ve been my constant, my calm, my home.

And I’d choose you again.
Every time. 🤍

Cold front blew in. Sky made a fire. I had to keep Naomi from jumping in it and had to put barriers all around it. Have no idea what’s up with goats and sheep wanting to be so close to fire. #babygoat #rescuegoat

Day 3 with our new baby — temporarily named Cielo 🤍

She did so much better.

Her fever was down.
She drank from a bottle.
And I got six whole hours of sleep divided into 2 hr increments. I need to feed her every 2hrs this week.

Those six hours gave me just enough confidence to do something important for our family — attend the ceremony where my brother-in-law was inducted into the Swimming Hall of Fame at Churchill High School… on my husband’s birthday. 🥹🤍

It was a big night for our family.

And yes… Cielo came with me. People@thought I was holding a baby. But I was holding Cielo.

We sat in the science room, and she slept peacefully on a lab table like the tiniest little scholar. She didn’t make one peep. Not a cry. Not a fuss. She just slept sweetly through the entire ceremony.
I put her in the car for the pep rally and she slept the last hour.
Your prayers worked. I truly believe that. She was stronger yesterday.

I’m still searching for enough real goat milk to last a couple of months while she’s in this fragile stage. If anyone has a source, please let me know.

Her legs still weren’t straight, but I massaged them for a long time when we got home. I’ve already been splinting them, and I just need to keep doing it consistently. Which of course I will. She’s already showing improvement, and I’m confident she will stand straight.

Last night was about resilience in so many ways — athletic legacy, birthdays, family, and this tiny little life fighting to get stronger.

Thank you for praying. Thank you for caring. Thank you for walking this with us.

We’re not out of the woods yet — but we moved closer. 🤍🐐✨
