Somewhere between the apple trees and the second (okay, third) apple cider donut, I remembered: the best days don’t need a plan. 🍎

Day trip to Sky Top Orchard in Flat Rock. Mountain views, a basket full of apples, and zero agenda. This is what slowing down looks like at this stage of life, and I’m here for it.

@skytoporchard, you made my fall! I’d love to team up and show more Gen X women why your orchard deserves a spot on their fall list. Let’s create something together. 🍩📸

You don’t have to be a food blogger to make a cookbook. 🍎

Sky Top Orchard: From Tree to Table is Katie Butler Murphy’s love letter to her family’s orchard. The history, the seasons, every kind of apple they grow, and the family recipes they’ve made for years.

Katie took every photo and made every recipe herself. We took her concepts and dialed them in... consistent typography, page layouts, organization, the right printer for her timeline, and special finishes on the cover and endpapers.

Not just a cookbook. A new way to share the family business.

Have a story like this? Let’s talk. And follow along for more cookbooks we love.

3 days in Asheville, NC with kids, and we managed to squeeze in quite a bit!

We drove up from St. Pete for a little fall getaway, and between apple picking, mountain hikes, great food, and beautiful fall colors, it was exactly the change of scenery we needed.

Here’s everything we did:

Day 1 — Road trip & Biltmore Village
• Buc-ee’s — because apparently no family road trip is complete without it.
• Forestry Camp — such a cool atmosphere, excellent food and drinks!
• Hillman Beer — another great brewery with delicious food and drinks.
• Sunshine Sammies — highly recommend stopping for ice cream!

Day 2 — Apple picking & mountain views
• Sky Top Orchard — beautiful orchard with so much for kids to do! Apple picking was surprisingly challenging, and the apple cannon was a favorite. Make sure to reserve your picking time in advance.
• Max Patch — easily one of the highlights of our trip. Incredible 360-degree mountain views, plenty of space for the girls to run around, do cartwheels, and collect colorful fall leaves.

Day 3 — More hiking & waterfalls
• Lover’s Leap Trail — a more challenging hike with a good amount of elevation change, but the views made it worth every step.
• Waterfall hike — a short trail right on the property where we stayed. Somehow, this ended up being our most challenging hike of the trip!

Our evenings were spent roasting marshmallows, enjoying the cooler weather, and relaxing after some very full days.

One thing worth mentioning: our Airbnb was so tucked away in the mountains that we needed four-wheel drive to reach it. Definitely part of the adventure!

We absolutely loved this trip and would do it all over again.

Stay tuned for Part 2, because the place we stayed deserves its own post!

Save this for your next fall family getaway to Asheville!
