Ok Yes I went down the AI rabbit hole. I got to thinking what the Skywagon would look like in my favorite childhood TV and Movie cars!

Sound on for this one.

Hollywood’s Dog Star, off on another mission. After a cup of Yorkshire tea and a slice of my bara brith, the Dog Stars 185 was on its way. Off the grass, a low pass over the strip and gone over the fields, all in about ten seconds. That 300hp Continental sounds every bit as good as it looks.

Hig had to survive the end of the world. Joe just had to survive my fruit cake. Both made it out in one piece.

Thanks again for the visit, Joe @thebestcessna
The kettle’s always on at Debdale.

Want the recipe? Comment BRITH and I’ll send it over.

More backcountry flying from our farm strip every week. Follow along if that’s your thing.

It’s the Cessna 185 from Ridley Scott’s The Dog Stars, flown in to Debdale today by my friend Joe @thebestcessna .

In the film, Hig (Jacob Elordi) is a pilot living out the end of the world on an abandoned Colorado airfield with his dog Jasper and a hard-bitten ex-Marine, Bangley (Josh Brolin). His Cessna is his lifeline, his escape and ultimately his reason for hope, when a faint voice crackles through its radio and he risks flying beyond the point of no return to find it.

If you’ve seen the film, you’ll remember Hig dropping it into impossibly tight spots. Joe did the same today: slow, steep, firmly on the mark and stopped in next to no distance. Hollywood didn’t need to fake that part.

Up close, the paint is remarkable. It’s been made to look like it’s survived the apocalypse, with bullet holes, oil drips and dirt in all the right places. A work of art disguised as a wreck, and a true one of one.

Underneath the costume, it’s a 185. For my money, one of the greatest backcountry aeroplanes ever built: powerful, rugged and happy on strips most aircraft would rather avoid. It looked very at home on our grass.

Thanks for dropping in, Joe. Hig would have approved.

Fall is definitely my favourite season for photos! You just can’t beat the colours. You also can’t beat a crisp morning as the fog clears watching the @adventure_air_services guys going about their day.

Finally getting around to posting this video from the first two days of my flight from Galveston to Alaska in May. Incredible transition from the Texas gulf coast to the deserts of New Mexico. #skywagon #taildragger #bushplane #aviation #cessna
