I heard rumor they may rescue this gazebo and put it somewhere in the surrounding area and it got me thinking about keepsakes and souvenirs… do we need em? What are they for? Can’t memories be captured with just our minds, or possibly a photograph? I personally think so, but I’m also certain not everyone feels the same. Where some people may feel bogged down by countless items taking up space, others want or need a physical object to better recall things. A sensory item they can tangibly touch to bring them back to a special moment.
Is this why we keep our dead in graveyards, and urns, even tho it’s a waste of physical space? Is it heartless to say that?
Is this why many explorers take things from spots and fill their houses with useless items for trophies? Is this why when a family goes to florida or on a cruise they hafta get a souvenir from where they went? Sure, ultimately memories are internal, but for some people these items can help ground and hold onto those memories when things start to fade away over time…
I’m certain I’m different in these things, (tho i say this as a person who also enjoys abandoned places and other peoples left behind keepsakes🤷🤦🏻🤔😆) and personally I like to keep a minimalist type of mind set on keeping stuff (not that i don’t have a few souvenirs, knick knacks, or keepsakes of my past and past explores) but there’s definitely a crowd of collectors and hoarders on the opposite side of the world’s spectrum as well.
Where do you stand?
Are you a collector? A minimalist? Somewhere in between? Would love to hear everyone’s thoughts on the matter and where you fall.
