My mix for @shelter.tln show on @ida.radio is now out IDA soundcloud/mixcloud (okay it's been out for >50 weeks, I just didn't manage to make a post about it on my feed yet)
First full club music Comastasis set in a long while to be available online, pervious one was maybe in 2019, and after that I did my own show Sleep Deprived during 2022-2024 which is all on Soundcloud, but those were always a mix of ambient, club, guitar musics & other.
But this here is an example of how I may behave when confronted with an actually dancefloor, like on all those occasions where set does not end up online

On this mix I also played a bit of material from dating back to the 90's, the Green Velvet track and my remix of an old Godflesh track, but what really felt like going back to the source was playing was music by the early 2010's collective Academy Award Music Group (#AAMG)

Was great to get Slackk down to the studio for this B2B.

Paul has been one of my favourite DJs since way back before I had touched decks myself. I have a distinct memory of the first time I used CDJs being at a night he was headlining at the Shelter in Shanghai for Push & Pull. I'd just made a version of Wiley's Shanghai so tried to clang it in there at the end of the night during a b2b2b.

In this set we played a load of sped-up amapiano, batida and grime. Shouts out to everyone using Wide on the tempo fader.

Link in my bio to listen.

I'm back next month with another special guest and more exclusive tracks.

In many ways, @butterzsound and @boxedldn felt like the successors to OG dubstep nights like FWD>> and DMZ — but by the mid-2010s, the factors that had led to dubstep’s mainstream success had shifted, completely changing the goalposts.

Music was slowly pivoting away from MP3s towards the streaming economy, creating barriers to entry for sample-based producers, meanwhile house and techno on one end and hip-hop on the other gained a renewed momentum often at the expense of bass music genres, like the once-mainstream dubstep tapered off. Finally, everyone involved was weary of grime being appropriated by outsiders (much like how dubstep was), awaiting a Drake grime dub that never came, only for grime’s original pioneers to be the ones to benefit most from the genre’s underground, instrumental revival.

Skepta’s “That’s Not Me” may have been the tune that changed everything, but it’s hard to imagine it delivering the same massive impact without the 2010s underground as a foundation. You could even argue that Butterz and Boxed were the last big club moments for millennials, with a younger cohort putting their own spin on dance music shortly thereafter.

Nevertheless, ravers young and old would do well to remember grime’s instrumental moment, as it’s proof that good, forward-thinking music — if promoted with the right enthusiasm — can shock the world! 💫

Tonight on @nts_radio 7 - 9 pm, the first of a two part broadcast dedicated to the closing of my 13 year residency on NTS.

I’ve never been one for nostalgia, and this has always been a new music show, but it feels nice to take a moment to look back on the early days in May 2011 where I’d turn up to a shabby booth in dalston with a suitcase full of battered records, and randomly explore, playing as though no one was listening, which was quite often the case. Special guests @quari0n and @ahuofficiel also join for this show, two people who’ve played an important part behind the scenes over the years, so a great opportunity to say thanks to them for the friendship, and the music.

When the show started in 2011, Tuesday night 8 - 10 pm was called “The New Jerusalem” with a rotating lineup curated by Femi - @aceofchase , @ggtop_cherrystones , @bullionness and me - still feel honoured to have been part of that lineup 🙏🏻

Some retro content in the gallery for you;
