For years, Arsen and Oksana have dedicated their talent, passion, and professional expertise to inspiring young dancers and bringing the art of classical ballet to our Sacramento region. Their new location represents more than a growing business. It is another investment in our children, their artistic development, and the cultural future of our community. Russian American Media team is proud to celebrate local entrepreneurs and educators who turn their passion into opportunities for the next generation.

Active people stay active. Although Kathy has stepped away from her role as Vice President of Government Affairs at AT&T, she certainly hasn’t stepped away from making an impact. She continues to stay actively involved with several nonprofit organizations, bringing her experience, relationships, and expertise to new projects across California.

It was great reconnecting with Kathy McKim at Caravan Uzbek Cuisine and catching up on what she’s working on next.

I’m especially grateful that she’ll be joining us on November 6 for the BEST Business Awards Ceremony & Gala featuring the Miss California International Grand Finale.

Looking forward to welcoming you, Kathy!

If you’re thinking about PERFORMING ARTS for your children, these are three organizations worth knowing in our community. Each plays a different role, but together they create a pathway from early exposure to professional development and public performance.

🎨 Community Outreach Academy of Art @coaelementary under the leadership of Principal @LarissaGonchar, brings art into elementary education on a daily basis, giving children the opportunity to discover creativity and artistic expression from an early age.

🩰 Universal Conservatory of Ballet @ucofballet founded by Oksana & Arsen Serobian, has created a unique training program focused on developing young performers through professional ballet education, discipline, technique, and stage experience.

🌎 @CouncilForCrossCulturalAffairs led by President & CEO @Alisa_Yurchenko, builds strategic community connections and creates opportunities for young performers to take the stage. Through the @InternationalKidsFestival, the Council brings together schools, performing arts organizations, educators, families, and thousands of community members.

Education | Professional training | A stage to perform
Real opportunities for the next generation of artists!

A day surrounded by people who believe that generosity can become real, measurable impact.

Today at the Sacramento Region Community Foundation Philanthropy Summit, bringing together nonprofit leaders, philanthropists, businesses, foundations, and community partners from across the Sacramento region. The conversations go far beyond charitable giving. They’re about collaboration, trust, stronger nonprofit organizations, sustainable funding, leadership, and building partnerships that actually move communities forward. One message stands out: philanthropy is not only about how much you give. It’s about how people, businesses, and organizations work together to create lasting impact.

Great to see so many Sacramento organizations, funders, and community leaders in one place, learning from each other and strengthening the connections that make our region stronger.

I love working with customers who are truly dedicated to the careers they chose and who continue to love what they do after decades of hard work. Trofim Banar is one of those people. He has been one of our loyal customers since we started our @BusinessNavigatorSacramento published by @RussianAmericanMedia in 1997. Over the years, I have watched him build an incredible reputation based on quality craftsmanship, experience, and personal service. His customers have included California governors, mayors, senators, Assembly members, and many well known business and community leaders. That kind of reputation cannot be bought. It is earned through decades of quality work and the trust of customers who keep coming back.

Thank you, Trofim, for your friendship, your craftsmanship, and your many years of outstanding service to our community. It is a pleasure to recognize someone who truly loves his profession and takes pride in every customer he serves.

A productive meeting with Golden 1 Credit Union Business Services Advisors Derrick Jourdan and Kristina (Yermakova) Lopez, focused on something that can create lasting value for our community: expanding access to financial literacy, financial education, and practical financial programs. Through collaboration between Golden 1 Credit Union, the Council For Cross Cultural Affairs, and Russian American Media, we discussed opportunities to bring financial knowledge and resources directly to the diverse communities we serve. By connecting Golden 1’s financial expertise with our community events, publications, digital media, educational initiatives, and community outreach, we can create more opportunities for families, entrepreneurs, nonprofit leaders, and young people to better understand the financial tools available to them. Financial literacy is not simply about managing money. It is about understanding credit, banking, lending, cash flow, saving, building financial stability, and making informed decisions that can strengthen families and businesses for years to come.

Thank you, Derrick and Kristina, for a meaningful conversation and for exploring how our organizations can work together to deliver real value to the community. We look forward to what we can build together!

It reflects a strong commitment to early education, student development, and expanded opportunities for families throughout the Sacramento region. We recognize the leadership, educators, staff members, and community partners whose work made this achievement possible. Congratulations to the entire Gateway International School community on an exciting new chapter.

64 YEARS OF COMMUNITY JOURNALISM

Congratulations to The Sacramento Observer on celebrating 64 remarkable years of service, leadership, and impact. The newspaper was founded in 1962 by Dr. William H. Lee, the father of my good friend Larry Lee. What began as a community newspaper became one of America’s most honored Black publications and a trusted voice for generations of Sacramento families.

This legacy is also personal to me. When we launched The Slavic Observer nearly three decades ago, Larry provided invaluable guidance and support. He taught me that a community newspaper must do more than report the news, it must give people a voice, preserve their stories, connect generations, and ensure that every community is seen and heard. Today, Larry and I, together with other independent local publishers, continue that mission through Solving Sacramento, a collaborative of community focused media organizations working together to strengthen local journalism, share resources, and better serve Sacramento’s diverse communities. Honored to visit Larry Lee headquarters and stand inside the home of a newspaper that helped shape Sacramento’s history and influenced my own journey as a publisher.
