Some documentation of the 'Julia Set EP' Listening Party and a little snippet of the live code performance by myself and Sleep Exchange. My heart will always lie in the DIY party space, open decks and little underground collectives where experimentation can thrive…consider this event an ode to those elements of the music sphere. Lots of love to everyone who played and those who came to listen...feeling rejuvenated and inspired <3 Thanks to Six12 for hosting. 🦋

Entry 2 21st Feb 2026 In our second workshop, we explored coding rhythm with Strudel just by sticking to the basic drum samples (their names lovingly taken after vintage drum machine naming conventions). Then we applied concepts of the ~magical~ mini-notation; the shorthand language of Strudel and other Uzulangs, e.g. TidalCycles. With the help of the Euclidean algorithm and mini-notation, we explored new possibilities for deviating from the western 4-on-the-floor. Rhythmic concepts like tresillo, cinquillo, polymeters and polyrhythms all became possible with the change of a bracket or number. So powerful! [I really wish we had enough time to delve more deeply into polyrhythms though - pls see my fave video reference on slide 6] The most exciting complexity comes from simplicity. I was really drawn to mini-notation and its power to sequence rhythm — non-western as much as western. Even through its use of “cycles” to slice time, we quickly learn that tempo is a perceived notion, and that we have so much freedom to change, adapt, and update the way people perceive the pulse within the same song/performance. It was so nice to see people experiment with rhythm! More more moreeee
