Poetry has a way of helping us define ourselves. It helps us understand who we are and what we offer this world. What our place is and where we want to be. Ultimately, it shapes us to fit the image we have in our mind and heart. Poetry is identity. When it comes to that, it made the most sense pairing @ashes.and.stardust and @salena_jd (aka @thepoetrypour ) at @smallformatpvd . Where identity comes first!

To my dear friend, Salena. I never thought that I would ever find myself back in poetry, let alone be asked to jump on a project that had all of Providence buzzing. When you approached me about an idea with the goal being we uplift our city, together, I knew this was special. Especially when it stems from such an honest space, your love for poetry and the community.

This is the first thing I've done as Aspiration Press after releasing my own poetry book and when it comes to identity, I didn't have one yet but you saw something and showed me what it was. A company and person who yearns to help the world by breathing life to it. Something I picked up from you through this fantastic experience.

September came and went in the blink of an eye. (Which is bittersweet, I was just getting used to making zine runs) We laughed, we stressed, we had a lot of meetings and printed so much paper. This was the most wonderful thing I've done and I cannot thank you enough!

AND Thank you ALL, poets, partners and patrons, for being part of this in every way and making this unforgettable. I'm looking forward to doing it all over again with you next year! Til then everyone, one last celebratory shot (of poetry) -- bottoms up!

Poetry has a way of finding beauty in our tragedies. It has a way of shining the light not just on our strong qualities when vulnerable but the honesty and truth of who we are when our life changes. Poetry highlights our decisions and relationships. Truly, each word brings meaning, showcasing our thoughts and feelings.

Both @wheelofashes and @slevy43 demonstrate the severity and strength through their poems. Both poets are esteemed and distinguished in their presentation and presence. Their work does not let you leave that behind. Putting them together to shine at @riffraffpvd was the best thing we could have done for both of them and together they truly have carved out space in this year's crawl. We couldn't be more content with honoring their work in this year's crawl!

Make sure you post about your adventure and the zines you found using the PVDpoetrycrawl hashtag for a chance to win a prize!

‘I breathe oxygen into air
there is a forest inside me
When the sun bares down
in harsh tones
my treetops filter her light –
split it into beams
through my stained-glass canopy
like rays in a cathedral
dispersed in holy mystery’

Sandra Beth Levy’s (@slevy43) beautiful poem, ‘A Thousand Lungs’, explores the power of hope.

PVD Poetry Crawl Spotlight: ✨️Sandra Beth Levy✨️
✍️: "At Swan Point Cemetery on this Tenth Anniversary of Your Death*"
🍸: @riffraffpvd

We returned to Riffraff for their Jazz Night, to settle in with @slevy43 's zine and a red banana espresso martini.

Of course, we were also here to relax on a Friday night with Sam on Keys @jjuunno0o0 . The moment the first notes of "Misty" escaped into the air, everything felt like it came together.

Scanning the QR code and hearing the heartache mixed with quiet observation of Sandra's words is a true honor. You have one week left to grab a zine of your own. Such an appropriate and meaningful pairing with @wheelofashes ' poem.

I love Riffraff by day but it was such an experience at night. So was my first ever espresso martini. My tablemate really enjoyed his yuzu shandy, too.

Follow @thepoetrypour and @aspirationcollective for more PVD Poetry Crawl.

I never thought that being nominated for a literary award (let alone 2!) was something in my reach. I always thought I wasn't good enough.

But in the wake of my grief-stricken heart this last year, I have entered a creative Renaissance that gifted me the consistent poetic writing schedule to create this possibility alongside many others like publishing 18 poems so far this year and earning my first book contract (Fragilidad y Free Dissociation comes out next Fall 2027 from the wonderful and innovative and just simply cool 😎 @girlnoisepress 🎉 🥳). I’ve also returned to my creative nonfiction practice in flash essays, am sending out my second manuscript (The Ambient Wing, from which this nominated poem is from), and compiling my third manuscript which has already been essentially written!

I am so grateful to Dr. Rachel Turney @turneytalks badass EIC of Poetry in Brief (the Magazine) @poetryinbrief who is an amazing writer herself for nominating me and my poem “Ambient Electrolytes” for the Best of the Net by @bestofthenetanthology from @sundresspublications .

It means the world to have my work championed by such a badass and epic literary community member like Rachel.

And then during a hard week, I was so excited and stoked all over again to see that I was nominated for Genrepunk’s Editor's Choice Award @genrepunkmag !!

I am so honored and humbled by these award nominations and this year's accomplishments to finally feel like little ol’ first-generation Nevada me belongs in the best community out there–the contemporary writing community 🥹. I'm embracing my pro wrestling self, hungry to keep working and win an award and a WWE title belt at some point. 💪🏾 🧠 ✍🏾 (Photo from my birthday party last year lol)

Many congratulations to my fellow nominees in other journals and from @poetryinbrief : @paulwritespoems @slevy43 @cynthia.atkins1 @adam_breier_poetry @klffstewart @tommywyattblake

Thank you again to @turneytalks for everything you do and for this great honor!

This is the fifth of six anthologies we are highlighting and recommending during our September Symposiums series… Find the full review on TurneyTalks.com in the “Recommended Books” section.

Rebellion of Quiet Things highlights a wide range of voices, viewpoints, and interests. Quillkeepers Press creates a cohesive and interesting sample of unique voices centering around grief, survival, and recovery. Their anthologies are really some of the most nicely curated out there, and they are able to gather such a special collection of writers consistently across their many projects. Check them out for open calls. I can recommend the press as both a reader and a writer.

Some folks I mention in my review: (please help tag them)
