Ten years ago, Shannon and I took our one-way flight to SF, landing here and arriving at our apartment (with no forks, no shower curtain, and a locksmith camped in our living room). I've always thought of myself as pretty awesome, but as the past three years gave way to many opportunities for reflection, I'd like to offer a short list of amazing things (let's skip the sad shit) that have become a part of what makes Russ in these ten glorious California years.

I became an internationally ranked pinball player and a strong pillar of the SF pinball community, with great friends who share the love of pinball all over the country. Also now have 3 pinball machines with a 4th on the way.
I traveled (for the first time) to Ecuador, Amsterdam, Alaska, Japan, Mexico and Australia alongside countless North American cities like Minneapolis, Palm Springs, Vancouver, Kauai, Toledo (lol), Austin, and Asheville.
I transformed my body (and am currently doing it again) to lose almost 80 pounds, and at one point was killing it in the weight room.
I traded my desire to do improv comedy for a desire to explore more of the specific perks San Francisco specifically has to offer. Wink wink
I discovered my love of EDM, raves, fashion, glitch/bro/dub/break/etc, and a lot of the positive, affirming aspects of the scene.
I went to countless festivals, both in the city (love a Great Northern block party, OSL, How Weird), and away (Life is Beautiful, Just Like Heaven)
I fully embraced my love of Star Trek. I got 6 more tattoos. I made a bunch of art. I formed a lot of amazing friendships.
I managed to keep the same job, apartment, and love this entire ten years, while always making efforts to expand friendships, worldviews, and discoveries.

reads like a resume but for real, i loved these past 10 California years and can't imagine how I would have turned out without them. It feels right and makes sense and I look forward to everything that comes next.
