Block parties & slow streets are powerful ways to build community. That’s what happened on Hearst Avenue in Sunnyside. During the pandemic, the community came together & converted Hearst into a slow street — de-prioritizing cars & prioritizing people. The neighborhood also started an annual block party. Today is the fifth year they’re doing it. It’s a big success for the neighborhood & a model for other communities.

This weekend the Block Party Fund is supporting SEVEN block parties in Lower Haight, Sunnyside, the Fillmore, Hayes Valley, Castro, Outer Sunset, and Bayview🪩🙌

Go to one near you, meet your neighbors, maybe even get a free haircut if you’re headed to the Fillmore Rodeo🤠

We started this program back in April to give out grants and event planning support to folks wanting to throw block parties, and we’ve been overwhelmed by the response.

Over 130 San Fraciscans have applied to host block parties to bring people together, spark joy, and lay the groundwork for stronger, more connected neighborhoods, and the application is still open through the end of this month!👀

We currently have another 40+ block parties coming up through the end of the year, check out the events page on our website to view the full schedule🗓️

Voting starts NEXT WEEK for Participatory Budgeting. Only 8 of the 10 projects will receive funding, so be sure to vote and make sure your voice is heard for your community!
