Tash Kahn lives in London and works from a studio in the Surrey woods.
An artist, curator and editor of Sluice Magazine, she has exhibited
internationally and co-founded DOLPH, a visual-arts project
facilitating exhibitions and collaborations across London, NYC and
Berlin.

Her collage for the Tooting Bec Lido Art Sale brings together
photographs of the pool, gaffer tape and fragments of an old poster,
recalling the childhood joy of cutting and sticking until everything
falls into place. For Tash, the lido is about health, friendship,
community – and so much blue!

Tooting Bec, I’ll be visiting you very soon for my first ever event for Swimming with Strangers. It’s quite apt because it’s where the whole journey began.

There’s a whole chapter on the wonderful lido in south west London and the very magical UK Cold Water Swimming Champs. Here’s a little snippet, introducing @team_mermaids_uk and @slsclido

Excuse my use of gifs and diy sound effects.

Tooting Bec Lido, 9-11am, Sunday 8th November ❤️❤️❤️ Winter members only x

Swimming with Strangers is available to preorder from all your favourite booksellers. Preorders MASSIVELY help the algorithm 😍🥳

Introducing Tracey Elizabeth Downing, taking part in the art sale and calendar, raising funds for the upkeep and improvement of Tooting Bec Lido.

Tracey is a South London Swimming Club member whose art practice is deeply connected to swimming, place and memory. A retired Art Psychotherapist, she works across painting, drawing, printmaking and poetry, drawing inspiration from the rhythm and contemplation of cold-water swimming at Tooting Bec Lido.

“I find swimming an immersive space for contemplation and rhythm, where thoughts and images emerge and find their way into my paintings and poems.”

Tracey is currently studying for an MFA at City & Guilds of London Art School and has exhibited in group shows and residencies in the UK and abroad.

In no particular order we begin to introduce our incredible artists, taking part in the art sale and calendar, raising funds for the upkeep and improvement of Tooting Bec Lido.

Peter Clash - Lido, (detail), Winter Sun, Summer Lido

Peter is an award-winning architect and artist, and has been a member of South London Swimming Club for over 40 years. His beautiful, accomplished watercolours capture the height of summer with all it’s madness and the serenity of the lido in the depths of winter, when swimmers are few and you might just have the pool to yourself.

I know I’m obsessed but this is absolutely perfect swimming weather. Suns out. 17 degrees is fresh but not alarming. Week of RTS in London and Birmingham and two shows ticked off the list.

Sun has set on the final evening swim of the season… Lido is for the morning & weekend swims now, until spring! Alternative venues for evening swims for the next 6 months for me. Early alarms for pre-work swims. Weekends for the swim-folk catch ups! 🙌

James Bond in Tooting! Here's Daniel Craig, 24 years ago, appearing in the Rogue Films short film 'Occasional, Strong', shot right here in Tooting!

Charlie Crompton of Rogue Films said of the film, "We’re not claiming credit or anything but Matthew Vaughn sees the film, and casts Craig in an eerily similar role in Layer Cake. Bond director Martin Campbell sees Layer Cake and casts him in Casino Royale. 15 years later he bows out in style, with 5 star reviews all round!"

The film features Tooting Bec Lido (and the car park) as well as the Wandsworth Common end of Trinity Road, and Richmond Park.

You can see Daniel Craig's star-making appearance on Vimeo · link in our bio (warning: contains violence).
