The Soapbox Satellite successfully launched last night at Johnny’s Garage in Hanahan, SC. What is the Soapbox Satellite? It is an offshoot of the original music and poetry series we call the Soapbox that happens at Chico Feo every Monday on Folly Beach. The Satellite will ‘orbit’ Johnny’s Garage the 1st Wednesday of the month 6-9pm and will continue to spread our mission of celebrating people who make sh!t up. Message me on IG or email follyfox20@icloud.com to get on the list.

I don’t think our inaugural run could have been any better. We welcomed The Dam Rites as our first featured artists. These guys are a hard drivin’, fire on the strings Bluegrass outfit and they lit it up last night. They made me shake a leg, or two. Thanks, fellers.

I kicked the night off and felt pretty good about it. Broke out a song I finally finished and didn’t screw it up. Sludge Pony, our first musical guest is awesomely quirky, funny and insightful. Gene Butler made the ride out and was wonderful. Jesse Murray is an amazing songwriter and was in top form. Chelsea Locklear debuted as our first poet and rocked it. Our ol’ pal and uke player Terry Hayes put his very unique stamp right across this ol’ Soapbox Satellite.

Thanks for coming out. Thanks for listening and being open to receive. If we lay this foundation, magic will happen. Help us spread the word and let’s build something cool. Go make sh!t up. See y’all Nov 4th.

Last night’s Labor Day Soapbox was the Little Soapbox that Could. I didn’t think it would happen because the forecast was downright ominous. I had resigned myself to a rainy day of binge watching Antiques Roadshow when, lo and behold, the clouds broke and the sun shined, once again, upon the Soapbox and we gathered to celebrate people that make sh!t up. And have some tacos.

Our featured artists Infinite Freefall lit the fuse last night and let it rip. It’s like Post Punk hooked up with Art Rock backstage of a college production of Hair and out popped Infinite Freefall. As unique as that sounds, what really struck me was the band’s and especially frontman Maxton Stenstrom’s enthusiasm for their music and the joy of being a part of what was going on around them. The first song they played summed it up well with the reprise, “I am in this shit for life”. Welcome to the fold, fellers. Rock on!

Cristopher Day, Sludge Pony and AJ Perry made their Soapbox debut and were great. Good to have y’all with us.

Jaymen Swygert was back with his gritty, hard livin’ songwriting. Poet Chuck Sullivan came out and shared some of his amazing poems with us. The Soapbox is lucky to have Chuck. Macelyn Batten treated us to a set of her amazing songs and a great cover of Dolly’s Jolene. Hunter Feick brought in new Soapboxer Mike Wall for a great duo that’s already cranking out new songs. Terry Hayes did what he does and it worked perfectly. He had a new song about his disdain for the government and I’m for that stuff.

Thank y’all for being great listeners and being open to receive. This is what brings all the kids to the yard. Thanks Chico Feo for letting this all unfold the way it should. Next week our featured artist will be the band Morrissey Blvd and these guys rock. Go make sh!t up!

We created El Corazon, a giant inhabitable heart as theater and a deeply transformational absurdist ritual in the gallery @proyectodracula ❤️ Participants were prescribed treatments by Dr. Love (slide 3) and entered El Corazon through the glittery red artery for a 15 minute group “therapy” session led by our practitioners: @teatropescadero and @zoharportal ❤️ Then we bathed in the sonic elixir of dj @alma_linda_music Miraculously!! 100% of our patients reported unusual health benefits (some grew a foot of hair!) and very probable extended #longevity (200yrs is the new 30) 🧛‍♀️ Thanks to our team of artists & players @sludgepony @alf.moctezuma @daturamagik @gypset_official & AV by @braincandy__ #art #happening #postsurrealism #gypset
