PROJECT: Itacaré Oasis Resort DESCRIPTION: The Itacaré Oasis Resort is an architectural project nestled in the majestic forest of Itacarè, Bahia, Brazil, designed to provide a harmonious blend of modern hospitality and rich local tradition. Conceived as a sustainable retreat, the resort welcomes tourists from around the world, offering them an authentic experience immersed in the pristine nature of the region. The use of local bricks for partition walls gives the resort a visual stability and a tangible connection to the region's construction techniques. These bricks, sourced locally, add a touch of authenticity and solidity to the overall design. Wooden roofs with sheet metal are a fusion of tradition and innovation. The wood, selected from sustainable local varieties, adds natural warmth and harmonizes with the surrounding environment. The sheet metal, lightweight and durable, provides modern protection from the elements without compromising aesthetics. The project strategically integrates bricks and wood with sheet metal to ensure not only an appealing aesthetic but also optimal functionality. The use of bricks establishes a tangible connection to cultural roots, while wood and sheet metal for the roofs bring a touch of contemporaneity and sustainability. The choice of local and sustainable materials, such as bricks and certified wood, is a key element in the overall sustainability strategy of the project. These materials not only reduce environmental impact during construction but also contribute to maintaining a harmonious balance with the surrounding forest. The use of local materials not only emphasizes coherence with culture and tradition but also contributes to the economic prosperity of the local community, supporting responsibly managed extraction activities for materials such as bricks and wood. Harmonia en las Alturas. The project aims to create a strong relationship with nature by positioning a suspended pod in a way that maximizes solar energy usage and connects intimately with the Tavertet cliff. The design prioritizes energy efficiency through careful orientation, the use of solar panels, and passive ventilation. Additionally, the strategic placement of the pod offers stunning views of the Guilleries and Tavertet landscapes. The objective is to prioritize nature over human intervention, benefiting the environment and promoting sustainable tourism in Tavertet and its surrounding cities. The pod's unique shape is inspired by ancient structures and Catalan modernist architecture. It serves a functional purpose by managing rainwater collection. Sustainability is emphasized through the use of locally sourced materials, prefabrication, and standardization. The construction process is efficient and utilizes materials found in nature. The load-bearing structure consists of wood and rammed earth, balancing the overhang and creating a contrast between ground connection and lightweight. Recycled polycarbonate materials are also incorporated for eco-sustainability. The project minimally impacts the environment with six steel pillars, aiming to strengthen the connection between the pod and nature. It provides a space for reflection and connection with the surrounding landscape's unspoiled beauty. Additionally, the design prioritizes occupant comfort and well-being through solar energy optimization, passive ventilation, and a healthy living environment.
