It’s art-week season in London and Paris, while parts of Europe burn as young people fight for a future against a wealth gap that’s devouring capitalist societies. My feed keeps flipping between strolls among objects presented as peak humanity and the fight for any future at all. Torn between the extremes, I’m slipping into my #virtualstudiocreep costume and screengrabbing peeks into studios around the globe. Here’s haul from recent weeks:

Some studios are more special than others as physical extensions of the person using them. One of those is @kristofsanty’s art lair, filled w his work, tools, but also books, trinkets, a vast collection of objects, including this impressive chair (seen here in a fairly empty space as his solo is up at @sorrysorry_were_closed). Speaking of wood, I love this surface-rich shot of @emcreasey’s corner at @cabin.ny, and how they chromatically fit @mortkhakshoor’s LA workplace wall. Still in LA, here is a nice shot of recent work by the most German Cali (or most Cali German), @friedrichkunath, and a mouthwatering video of @daltmejd’s latest mind bender.

Moving to Spain, here is the latest cutout painting project @edu_carrillog has been busy w, and a nice setup from @nievesgonnzalez’s paint corner. Continuing w easel views, @baldur_helgason shared what he’s been up to, and @robertpokorny’s shared an early paintsation POW WIP. Next up are @chambersdominic’s canine pals guarding the recent work, and @nachoeterno’s absolute full house.

Speaking of full house, I like this shot of @smalling_studio in his element, as well as this shot of @chidinma.nnoli between her recent large canvases. Next up is @gori.mora working away towards his solo w @galerieapelaires, and @gabrielled_art doing the same during her @upland_residency. Ending on a studio portrait note, here is @neomatloga in Paris, @joshuapetker in front of a cluster of new small-scale works in LA, and I have a special love for this video by @epricco of @fifthwalltv taking a studio profile of @elliottpittam for @the_unibrow (w a cheeky camo of one of the works that will be part of my next curatorial project in Spain).

Templon is pleased to announce the representation of David Smalling.

Born in 1987 in Kingston, Jamaica, David Smalling lives and works in New York City. He studied Mathematics at Yale University, where he also trained at the Yale School of Art, and holds a Ph.D. from Harvard University.

Drawing from the tradition of Mannerism and the Dutch Golden Age, Smalling’s paintings examine how contemporary social codes and gender norms shape identity and behavior. Through carefully constructed domestic and ceremonial scenes, he explores themes of belonging, aspiration, and restraint, questioning the roles we inherit and perform.

Following his first exhibition at Templon New York in March 2026, his second solo show will open in Brussels on November 12th, 2026.
