I’m a big fan of a good one-person tent and the way it enables you to experience a landscape. The @seatosummit Sentinel is my favourite, and I’ve been through more than a few tents over the years.

I love the Sentinel tent because it’s:
→ Quick to set up and freestanding. With colour-matched DAC poles, making the whole process straightforward — great if your brain is a bit tired at the end of a long day. Plus, don’t underestimate the benefits of a freestanding tent in terms of pitching, especially in difficult conditions.
→ High-performance materials. The tent is made from recycled, bluesign-approved Ultra-Sil LS fabric that stretches very little when wet (big positive!), a floor waterproofed to 25,000mm (excellent), and not a trace of PFAS (also excellent). Tested to 80+ km/h winds, the tent uses self-equalising guylines and airfoil overhangs to remain stable. That means no flapping around at 2 a.m., no second-guessing the pegs.
→ Heaps of liveable space. Vertical walls and real headroom mean it never feels cramped, even with all my gear and my backpack in the tent. Being able to change clothes and move around without hunching over or having fabric in my face is definitely nice!

The philosopher Gaston Bachelard, in ‘Poetics of Space’ (an amazing book!), wrote: “A house that has been experienced is not an inert box. Inhabited space transcends geometrical space.”

You’d think a tent’s four walls, less than arm’s length away, would shrink your world. But in my experience of solo tents, the opposite is true: the walls stop working as a boundary, functioning as a doorway deeper into the massive valleys and towering ridge lines. A good tent allows you to inhabit a space so much larger than the geometric confines of the tent itself.

For me, that whole exchange — solitude opening into immensity, folding back into something intimate and familiar — is one the most thrilling part of being out there. And none of it happens without a tent that you can trust enough to call a home.

Tested by Australia, proven in New Zealand. Proudly to be a @seatosummit Ambassador.

Rattling around @theremarkables Monday afternoon.

I had a big crash last week and lost my GoPro so @nohairbrush lent me his Max and I took it for a play. Very trusting of him 😎.

Was super nice to just boost around with no pack on a sunny day. Seems to be a rarity at the moment. Managed to put a couple shots together of some of my favourite little spots at Remarks.

Optimal conditions for the @blackcrows_skis Atris at the moment.
