Yet somehow, they share the same atmosphere." "THE GATHERING" is a project curated by <SMILE CODE> that brings together creators from different countries, cultures, and genres, and enjoys the "chance encounters" that arise from them. Five unique brands from Spain, Romania, Georgia, the USA, and Hong Kong have come together at Seibu Shibuya. Through their respective creations, they aim to create a space where people connect, cultures connect, and new possibilities are explored, showcasing their distinctive items. A fashion and lifestyle brand from Spain. They offer a range of items to enhance everyday styling, including apparel, hats, bags, and scarves. Their designs are simple yet playful and free-spirited, offering creations that highlight the individuality of each wearer. This hat brand is based in Bucharest, Romania. While cherishing traditional hat-making techniques, they meticulously craft each hat using natural and high-quality materials. Through designs incorporating bold forms, embellishments, and vibrant colors, they propose hats as a special item for expressing individuality. This ceramic project is based in Tbilisi, Georgia. They translate everyday emotions, memories, and perspectives into uniquely shaped ceramic works. Their creations go beyond mere household items, producing distinctive objects and tableware that stimulate the emotions and imaginations of those who hold them. This art project freely moves between the boundaries of art and everyday life, creating works from a unique perspective. Through visual expressions that evoke humor and playfulness, it proposes art as something that can be enjoyed in a more accessible way. Why Japan? I’m interested in the intersection of art, fashion and costume & the Japanese love to experiment with how they dress and there’s often a sense of play. The rich culture, the extremes of refined, disciplined design with crazy cosplay. I remember first coming across the book FRUiTS featuring a wonderful collection of Japanese people creatively dressing and feeling inspired. Most of these observations are from afar so it’s wonderful to see how my aesthetic marries in with all of this in reality.
