POV: D2 Summit as a Coach

My week with my team had so many highs (and only 10 seconds of low 😂). The Dynasty Ladies were positive, hilarious, teachable, and so so much fun to be with. So many special moments as a team, even though we didn’t overcome this season’s curse of the pyramid. While we finished our season with a disappointment on the comp floor, we followed it with a fun team dinner and meaningful Team Talk that I will cherish for a long time. Let me introduce my Champions. They are Champions, not because they beat other amazing teams, but because they beat a lesser version of themselves.

Sometimes it takes years for a seed planted in a teenager’s mind to grow and take root. This has been an incredibly fulfilling month as a coach because I can see the personal and athletic growth happening before my eyes in real time. These girls have made such strides in the last few weeks as young ladies of character, that it shouldn’t have surprised me to see their athletic success follow. But nothing could’ve prepared me for how proud they made me this weekend on stage. Like every other team there, they were battling nerves, the stomach flu, injuries, routine changes, the fog machine, the sauna-like warm up environment, finals week, boyfriend drama, bad hair days, family stress, etc. And like every other team there, they took the stage and competed against a lot of talented teams. But as Bruce Brown says, “when talent meets talent, talent isn’t enough.” He challenged us to identify what sets us apart as a team, and we have been diving in to what makes Dynasty Ladies special. He teaches about the right kind of Team Pride: the shared joy of the inner circle—the feeling that comes after working together to overcome challenges and achieve goals. We’ve been talking a lot this month about what it looks like to create and fight for that team pride, being an intentional part of the process regardless of age or experience, finding unity as a team regardless of personal differences or opinions, stepping out in faith together instead of isolating in fear individually, respecting the responsibility of being reliable teammates, and being contributing assets towards greatness instead of a passenger or anchor.

The shared joy of our inner circle was a beautiful, Divine thing to experience this weekend. DL, thank you for taking part in our Team Talks, overcoming status quo, trusting those who are trying to help make you better, and sacrificing your time, bodies & personal preferences to be part of something bigger than yourselves.
