It is with deep gratitude and joy that I reflect on The Art of Community: A Day of Wellness.

This gathering was more than an event—it was a manifestation of faith, vision, and the collective love we share for Black women, families, and community. Be Well Women’s Wellness Collective was born from my own lived experiences, the wisdom of our ancestors, and the need I saw for sacred, intentional spaces where wellness is not just a passing trend, but a pathway of reclaiming ourselves.

Every piece of this day was touched by heart, by early mornings, by tears, by courage, and by the power of community. We came together through the hands, the love, and the commitment of so many—wellness practitioners, community partners, business owners, and each of you who chose to show up.

I believe wellness is ours to hold. And on this day, we held it together. We breathed together. We celebrated together. And in doing so, we reminded ourselves and each other that healing is not just individual—it is collective, it is cultural, and it is sacred.

Health Tip Tuesday: Understanding Depression in Children & Teens

Did you know? The rates of depression in children and adolescents have been steadily rising — and it’s not just the typical “teen moodiness.” According to the CDC, the percentage of adolescents experiencing depressive episodes has increased by more than 50% in the past decade.

3 Ways to Help Your Child Open Up About Their Feelings:

1️⃣ Create Safe Spaces for Conversation:
• Instead of asking, “Are you okay?” try asking, “What was the best and toughest part of your day?”
• Use open-ended questions like, “What’s been on your mind lately?”

2️⃣ Encourage Journaling:
• Writing can be a powerful way to express emotions. Suggest prompts like:
• “Today I felt _____ because _____.”
• “Something I wish someone would understand about me is _____.”

3️⃣ Use Conversation Apps Like “How We Feel”:
• This free app helps kids and parents check in, share, and journal their feelings. It can be a gentle way to open conversations and track emotional patterns over time.

⸻

💛 Parent Tip: It’s okay if you don’t have all the answers. Just being there to listen can be enough. And if you’re feeling overwhelmed or unsure, reach out to a trusted therapist or healthcare provider.
