You know, I used to secretly judge people who celebrated every little milestone. Every “one month to go,” every monthly anniversary, every tiny occasion.

Today, as we celebrate our six months of being married, I finally understand why they do it.

Life has a funny way of taking over. Between work, routines, responsibilities and everything in between, it’s so easy to forget to pause and simply celebrate us. These little milestones become an excuse to reconnect, to put in that little extra effort, to be a little more romantic like we use to be, and to remind each other that our relationship deserves celebrating too, even after the big day.

Before marriage, I thought romance was all about grand gestures leading up to the wedding.

Now I know better.

Love doesn’t end after the wedding.
It doesn’t become ordinary.
It simply grows up.

It becomes quieter, steadier and more intentional.
It grows day by day, month by month.

So here we are, celebrating six months of choosing each other.

No matter how cliché it may seem, I hope we never stop celebrating these little moments. Because one day, they’ll become the big memories we’ll look back on.

Let me spill the beans.

Hi, I’m Palak, a pure vegetarian who married a hard-core non-vegetarian.
This was a concern for our families, and honestly, it’s still something people are curious about.

So here’s how we make it work.

Firstly, we both came into this relationship ready to make certain compromises without being rigid. We have different food preferences, but we respect each other, and this came very naturally to us.

I’ve seen many vegetarians react to non-veg with “eww” or “yuck,” but I never felt that way. I was raised to never disrespect someone else’s food or preferences, even if they’re different from mine. So Shivam being a non-vegetarian was never really a “problem” for me.

Do I break bread with him? Yes. Most definitely!

Even before I met Shivam, most of my close friends were and are outside my community. My school best friends are Catholic and Muslim. Initially, it was uncomfortable sitting around non-veg food, but over time, being around them shaped my thinking, that there’s more to life than just the adherence of religion. Additionally they were always extremely careful and respectful about my food too.

So now, being married to a non-vegetarian husband feels easier in a way, I was already “trained.” Thanks to my friends for that. And I’m more of a “look inside my own plate” person rather than worrying about what someone else is eating.
