POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Rice wine was flowing all night long at the launch for Min Jin Lee’s highly-anticipated forthcoming novel American Hagwon earlier this month. In honor of the National Book Award–finalist’s first release in nearly a decade, Cardinal hosted a makeshift pocha—a cozy Korean establishment for drinking and street food—at Manhattan’s Public Hotel. Read all about it in our new party column, Books About Town.

It’s the 11th hour, and I’m thinking back on my year in letters. There was a lot to celebrate on both sides of the writing and editing life, for which I’m tremendously grateful (because in other news, the world was on fire). Thank you to all the friends, colleagues, family, interns, authors, editors and other wonderful bookish people who made it possible for me to:
—Publish my first piece in the Wall Street Journal (and make my economist friends proud), which was picked up by NPR
—Direct and host the star-studded 20th @amherstcollege LitFest featuring @_tejucole, Percival Everett, Anthony Fauci & many more
—Have so much fun at AWP (can we do it in warm weather every year?)
—Launch @ednahi’s fabulous book
—Celebrate 15 years of @commonmag with events, essays, articles, lions & tigers, oh my! With huge thanks to @apossanza @literaryhub @adrienne.raphel @poetswritersinc @gabrielewilson
—Attend the movie premiere of @benshattuck_ ‘s THE HISTORY OF SOUND (originally a story in Issue 16!)
—Process a tough agent breakup and come out the other side
—Finish and sell my second novel SURRENDER @delphiniumbooks (In stores April 14!)

Looking back, I know why I’m tired, but also proud. And even more cognizant than ever that the people in this business are what make the tough parts worth it. There is so much good work to do, and so many delicious things to read. See you all next year!

The Common celebrated 15 incredible years with a party in NYC! Great food, conversation, and community, plus the main event: authors Lynn Steger Strong, Rumaan Alan, and Xochitl Gonzalez discussed sense of place in fiction, moderated by Leigh Newman. More photos at link in bio.
