Nima Astria’s childhood was soundtracked by C4 Select Live, Britney Spears, and video games like Big Little Planet and GTA - all influences that paved the way for the contemporary digicore, hyperpop, and underground rap that’s manifested the Iranian-New Zealand artists “avant-club” musical mood board today. Nima’s music taste reflects a true child of the internet who belongs to countless niche stan culture communities and subgenre rabbit holes - but all paths lead back to dance-pop music. The lead single from her forthcoming debut EP, ‘Sexybeat’ reimagines dubstep from the feminine lens of a hopeless romantic, lacing together intricate layers of elegant keys, soaring synths, and charming melodies before an abrasive dubstep drop rips the track apart.  We chatted to Nima Astria about ‘Sexybeat’, the flow state of her duo side project boyracer (with Smurgy), and overcoming imposter syndrome to live out her popstar fantasy. Read the full interview at sniffers.co.nz 💘
