happy birthday isaiah. my brother!!!!!!!!

i’ve known him since a young lad, i saw so much of myself in him. i still do. ever since he ran into rehearsal with his funky little hat on after breaking into his funky little apartment in boston cuz he lost his key. i admired how much of himself he was. he has brought me out of a funk many-a-time.

at this point, he can read my mind.

isaiah, we’ve made so many friends along the way, been to so many states, drank a multitude (multiform) of beers, eaten junk food + laughed with bandmates into the wee hours of the night. i am so proud of you. you moved to nyc and started a people-forward studio from scratch. we have “made it,” we made it when we met. love you.

Last summer, I had the pleasure of experiencing artist @snakebone_ ‘s Creative Session during @goodblackart’s residency at @creative.legion, part of Upstate Art Weekend.

In an intimate talk on his “gumbo career,” a blend of art, music, books, food, and more, Julian shared, for the first time, insights into his creative process and his project with Good Black Art and @parall.e.l: 𝘚𝘯𝘢𝘬𝘦𝘴 𝘏𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘉𝘰𝘯𝘦𝘴.

Learn more about Julian and 𝘚𝘯𝘢𝘬𝘦𝘴 𝘏𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘉𝘰𝘯𝘦𝘴., link in bio.

Almost a year ago I was in a warehouse in New Jersey packing boxes.

@snakebone_ was the first artist on our platform. First to do an event. First in an international exhibition. First to publish a book with us. That trust means everything.

Snakes Have Bones is his debut monograph. Over 200 small scale drawings spanning 2020 to 2024. A fictional urban universe that is dark, wintery, and deeply human.

Publishing is just another way of connecting people to an artist’s practice and story. But it’s also proof that @goodblackart is more than a marketplace. We’re building the infrastructure emerging artists deserve.

This one felt like the beginning of something much bigger.

Grab a copy. Link in bio.
