What do you actually get from Jiu-Jitsu?

You get fitter. You get stronger. You build confidence.

You learn how to stay calm under pressure, solve problems and keep going when things get difficult.

For kids and teens, it can mean confidence, discipline, respect and finding somewhere they belong.

For adults, it can be the hour of the day where everything else switches off. No work. No phone. No distractions. Just learning, moving and training with good people.

And somewhere along the way, exercise stops feeling like something you have to do and becomes something you actually look forward to.

You don’t need to be fit before you start.
You don’t need any experience.
You don’t need to know anything about Jiu-Jitsu.

You just need to walk through the door.

There’s more to coaching kids than teaching Jiu-Jitsu.

Of course, we want them to learn how to move, grapple, defend themselves and develop real skills.

But we also want them to associate the mats with something positive.

A place where they can laugh.
A place where they can make friends.
A place where they’re allowed to get things wrong.
A place where they’re challenged, encouraged and supported.

Some kids will compete. Some will train for years. Some might only be with us for a chapter of their childhood.

But whatever their journey looks like, we want them to remember that stepping onto these mats was something they looked forward to.

Because if you can make a child genuinely love Jiu-Jitsu, everything else becomes much easier to teach.

I love coaching.

There’s something incredibly rewarding about standing in front of a room and sharing what I’ve learned over the years. Not just showing techniques, but trying to help people understand Jiu-Jitsu and find their own way of making it work.

Teaching is more than showing a technique.

Anyone can demonstrate a sequence. Coaching is being able to explain why something works, recognising when somebody doesn’t quite understand it, and finding another way of communicating it until it clicks.

Everyone needs something slightly different.

People learn differently, move differently and have different goals. A huge part of coaching is getting to know the person in front of you and helping them develop their own Jiu-Jitsu, rather than trying to make everyone look the same.

It’s supposed to be fun.

We train hard and we want people to improve, but I never want us to lose this part of it. Laughing, enjoying the rounds and actually wanting to come back tomorrow. Progress matters, but enjoying the process matters too.

It goes far beyond the mats.

Over time, you stop just being the person teaching someone Jiu-Jitsu. You talk about work, family, problems, successes and life outside the academy. Jiu-Jitsu is what initially brings us together, but the relationships built through it can become something much bigger.

🇧🇷Coisas que jamais devem faltar na sua vida; Deus, Família, Pátria, Café, Jiujitsu, carne, Jiujitsu, Jiujitsu e algum dinheiro. Só isso, já é sinônimo de uma vida completa.

🇬🇧Things that should never be missing from your life: God, family, country, coffee, Jiu-Jitsu, meat, Jiu-Jitsu, Jiu-Jitsu, and some money. That alone is synonymous with a complete life.

I genuinely love coaching Jiu-Jitsu.

Kids or adults. Gi or No-Gi. Beginners stepping onto the mats for the first time or experienced grapplers trying to sharpen their game.

I love all of it.

There’s something incredibly rewarding about teaching someone a technique, watching them struggle with it, work at it, and eventually seeing that moment when it clicks.

With the kids, it’s watching their confidence grow, seeing them come out of their shell and helping them learn things that go far beyond Jiu-Jitsu.

With the adults, it’s seeing people challenge themselves, improve, build friendships and find something they genuinely look forward to each week.

I still love competing. I still love training. I still love learning.

But coaching has become one of the most rewarding parts of Jiu-Jitsu for me.

Getting to share something I love with other people, and hopefully play a small part in their own journey, is a privilege I’ll never take for granted.

Kids. Adults. Gi. No-Gi. I just love being on the mats.

If you need a photographer for your fights, talk to Daniel. He is excellent!!!

With each passing day, I fall even more in love with Jiu-Jitsu. Every day, I learn something new or have the opportunity to refine something I already know.

One year ago today we opened our doors for our very first beginners class.

We had a vision of the kind of academy we wanted to build. We wanted a place where people could learn great jiu-jitsu, feel welcome from day one, and genuinely enjoy coming to train.

What we didn’t expect was for it to become something as special as this.

Fast forward one year and we’ve built something we’re incredibly proud of.

This weekend was the perfect way to celebrate. We had our White Belt King of the Mat tournament, promotions, an open mat, a BBQ, and a room full of people who make this academy what it is. Looking around, seeing beginners, experienced grapplers, kids, parents, families and friends all together reminded us exactly why we started.

To every single person who has trusted us over the last year, whether you’ve been with us since day one or joined last week, thank you.

A special mention goes to those original beginners who walked through the doors a year ago. So many of you are still here today, and watching your progress has been one of the most rewarding parts of this journey.

This academy has never just been about jiu-jitsu. It’s about the people.

Here’s to another year of learning, hard work, friendships, and plenty more memories on the mats.

Thank you for being part of our circle.

This photo sums up everything we’re trying to build.

A place where people feel comfortable asking questions.

A place where beginners feel welcome from day one.

A place where experienced grapplers still have room to learn.

A place where everyone is treated with respect.

We work hard to create an environment where people enjoy training, support one another and leave each session a little better than when they arrived.

Great coaching matters.

Great training matters.

But great people matter most.

Jiu-Jitsu is for everyone. You just need the right circle.

Smiles. Training. Good vibes.

That’s what training at Circle of Vigour is all about.

Whether you’re stepping onto the mats for the first time or you’ve been training for years, we believe the best progress happens when you’re surrounded by great people.

Work hard.
Laugh often.
Support each other.
Keep improving.

Because the best part of Jiu-Jitsu isn’t just what you learn… it’s who you share the journey with.

Come and see what the Circle is all about.
