I’m turning 30 in a couple of months here, and I have some thoughts. 🌞 🌎 ✈️

(Part one of two. Swipe to the second picture for the other half.)

In the last year of my twenties, I somehow ended up in:
Paris, France
Edinburgh, Scotland
Montreal, Canada
Helena, Montana
San Francisco, California
San Jose, California
Denver, Colorado
Las Vegas, Nevada
San Diego, California

None of this was remotely foreseeable in January:

Standing a foot away from Van Gogh’s self portrait.
Cracking up with two of my best friends at the Ratatouille restaurant in France.
Having Steve Burns ask to hold my hand so he could tell me something in a tiny old room in Scotland.
Running into old pals I’ve known for a decade in strange little European performance venues.
Getting two new writing jobs. Writing a bunch of episodes while traveling.
Getting baptized.
Regaining the nerve to audition for two of my favorite shows. Returning to writing sketch.
Transferring to a university to continue studying to become a therapist.

It wasn’t foreseeable that I’d fall out of love. Or that I’d fall in love again. Or that I’d land with a broken heart and have to walk away once more. It certainly wasn’t foreseeable that I’d be getting ready to date again right now.

For the past couple of years, I’ve spent a lot of energy trying to become more ethically aligned with the person I believe I can be. What I didn’t expect was that, somewhere in that process, I would also remember the person I already am. That I’m funny, I’m smart, I’m kind, and I can be deeply earnest without losing my sense of humor. I can take care of my body and my mind, show up for the people I love, admit what I need to learn, and work hard at things that matter to me still wanting more from my life and having the grit to support others around me.

I look around now at how big and multi-faceted my life has become and how wide my net is. For a long time, I thought my lack of linearity was my downfall. I thought wanting to do so many things must make me “too much”. Now I know it’s one of my greatest strengths. I have always been expanding, by exploring.
