Being a panelist at the @msm_cmhe and lending my voice to “Building the Maternal Health Workforce Together” was an experience I’ll carry with me for a long time. To contribute not only as a doula, but also as a perinatal patient navigator, felt deeply aligned with the work I’ve been called to do.

We talked about what it truly means to build a workforce that reflects, respects, and shows up for our communities - especially Black families. A workforce that understands lived experience, centers evidence-based care, and advocates fiercely for better outcomes.

I’m honored to be a part of this movement, and even more committed to continuing the work beyond this week. As Black Maternal Health Week comes to a close, I’m reflecting on a week filled with highs and lows. A talented friend of mine passed away and I can recall a conversation of ours around purpose and the world needing our gifts. I pray he knows how much we appreciated his and that I will continue to walk in mine. ❤️‍🩹

@4kira4moms kicked off Black Maternal Health Week 2026 strong, celebrating 10 years of showing up, speaking out, and saving lives!

Baby, this is what Rooted in Justice AND Joy look like! 🥰 I’m always thankful to engage the community with the team because we’re going to bring the energy AND the information, okay?! From the fierce competition (and comedy) of the @dadgames (yes, the dads showed OUT per usual 💪🏽😂) to the soul-stirring sounds of @melaniefiona blessing the stage… t’was a day. 🩵💛

But the moment that stayed with me most? Seeing one of my doula babies and remembering why I do this. 🥹 A full-circle reminder of why this work matters.

This is what birth justice looks like…community, celebration, and healthy families.

I had the honor of standing with the @georgiacommunitydoulas at the Georgia Capitol for Community Doula Day — and let me tell you, the energy in that building was undeniable! I hadn’t been to the Capitol since a high school field trip and luckily, this wasn’t just a field trip… it was advocacy in action! It was voices rising for families, for babies, for safer births across Georgia.

We showed up with one clear message: every Georgia family deserves access to a doula. Period.

Community-based doulas are more than support people…we are advocates, educators, and a steady presence in some of life’s most vulnerable moments. We show up in underserved communities where the gaps are widest, bringing culturally competent care, trust, and evidence-based support that can truly change outcomes.

Safer births should not depend on your zip code. Support should not be a luxury. Georgia families deserve better, and we’re fighting for it.

So grateful to be in community with so many passionate birthworkers committed to this mission. This is what change looks like. And we’re just getting started. 💪🏾🖤
