Summer leaves something behind.

Sweat.
Sun.
Seeds.
Receipts.

Then the trees start changing,
the light starts fading,
and the year asks:

What did you do with what you said you wanted?

Twice is a check-in.

A moment to recognize the things that once lived only in your head

now living in your hands.

Not every win needs an audience.

Not every milestone needs a finish line.

Sometimes you just need to stop,look around, and give yourself a second to realize…

you’re becoming who you said you would.

Summer was the proof.

Fall is the pressure.

Keep growing.

You did it once.

Do it twice.

AI Without the Hype with @shanselman.

On Saturday, Scott showed us what AI actually does when you stop asking it to be magic and start asking it to do your chores.

He talked to his computer in plain English about a video file that was too big to email. It shrank the file without wrecking the quality. Then he ran a chat model locally on his own laptop. No cloud. No account. 209 milliseconds.

Nothing on that screen was a product pitch. It was a guy solving the same annoying problems the rest of us have, on the same laptop the rest of us have.

We do this to build community and learn together. If you're an expert, it's a refresher and a reason to step outside and be around people. If you're learning right now, you get to do it alongside others on the same path. And if you're curious or just lurking, it's the best way to see how far these tools have come.

Who was in the room

K-12 educators. Software developers from Intel. Mechatronics engineers from Daimler. City of Portland employees. Students. Community leaders. People looking for their next job. The room was diverse and multicultural, men and women and everyone, and it was great to see it so full.

REFLECT

As I sit back and put slides together for my presentation, I reflect on all the moments that got me to that point. The good, the bad and the ugly. Gratitude is an understatement! We’ve all been through a lot in life and I just you want to take a moment to reflect and realize how far you have come.

Sometimes you feel alone and I just want you to know you’re never alone in this journey! Don’t be shy to ask for help and always take pride in what you’ve done. Do the best you got with what you know. 🙏🏽

Sound, Vision, Machine by Reese Bowes

Yesterday Reese took us inside TouchDesigner and showed how approachable real time AV work has become.

We do this to build community and learn together. If you're an expert, it's a refresher and a reason to step outside and be around people. If you're learning right now, you get to do it alongside others on the same path. And if you're curious or just lurking (like me), it's the best way to see how far these tools have come.

In one session we went from the basics to:
▪️Audio reactive visuals that move on every beat
▪️Live computer vision driving graphics from a person's position on camera
▪️ Restyling live video with AI prompts as it plays, all running locally on a laptop with Claude as the live coding assistant

A moment I’ll never forget. 🌹🪷

Being named a Portland Thorns Community Captain meant more to me than I think I could fully put into words.

This moment did not happen overnight.

It represents years of showing up. Years of creating, producing, mentoring, connecting people, opening doors, sharing what I’ve learned, and sometimes continuing to pour into community even when I wasn’t quite sure where it was all leading.

Bloom was created from that same place. I wanted to take everything this industry and my journey had taught me and create opportunities for other creatives, especially those who haven’t always been given access, visibility or a seat at the table.

So to stand on that field and be recognized for the work I’ve been doing all these years… whew. 🥹

But there is absolutely no way I arrived at this moment by myself.

My family. My babies, Nasiera and Adam. My Bloom family. My fam-friends. My collaborators and partners who have believed in me, encouraged me, worked beside me, showed up, created with me and reminded me to keep going.

Jonathan + fam, Herb + fam, Wilson, Degundrea, Tracie, Natanya, Steffani, Dr. Mary, Rochelle, Betty Lexi, Asukulu and so many others — thank you. You are part of this story too. 🪷

And to Todd, Julian and Michael and the entire Portland Thorns organization, thank you for seeing me, seeing Bloom, and recognizing the work happening within our community. The care you all put into making this moment special for me and my family is something I will always remember.

Community Captain.⚽️🌹

When I really think about those two words, that’s what makes this honor so special.

Community.

Because none of us gets anywhere alone.

Captain.

Leading with love, grace and intention.

I’m grateful for every person who has been part of this journey, every door that opened, every door that closed, every lesson, every collaboration and every opportunity to keep blooming.

A long time coming.

And we’re still just getting started on this new chapter.🪷
