A few weeks ago I plucked a couple of very bonded, sorely neglected dogs from the mean streets. Toni, a kind woman with a senior rescue (@daisyluranch) took them in, cleaned them up and has given them a wonderful head start on their new life. Toni tried to find them a home together, but so far no one has been interested. The only opportunities have been to adopt them out separately. Days on the street, running blind with fear could not separate them. After all they’ve been through the thought of them having to say goodbye to each other was too heartbreaking to bear. Swallowing hard, hoping it will all work out and not be too disruptive to our house of cats, Bruce and I have decided to take them in together. If a wonderful home presents itself, there is still a chance they will move on to a new life without us. My heart! Can you believe it? What a transformation! 8 years on the street fighting for resources and survival. 8 months of acclimation and ridding himself of those surging pom pom hormones. For a while now I have been thinking about trapping Dusty in the kitten enclosure to try and acclimate her to our presence. Possibly even tame her to our touch. I hesitated because I hate the idea of stressing her out (she has been an untouchable house-feral for years). This morning I noticed she had gone in there on her own (she does that sometimes), and I decided to take the plunge and give this a try. I shut the door. She is scared, she did get agitated and paced a bit, but I think I have to give this a chance. It will change her life if she can learn to trust us. I sure miss our good cat, Uncle Ronnie. He would have made this transition so much easier. Stay tuned and wish us luck! Will update on Donny soon. Omg, I’m so in love with this sweet street urchin 🐱 He’s been pretty shut down, but he’s finally starting to watch me as I putter and coo to him. Love that I’m catching him stretched on his pillow bed, neck unprotectedly skyward. Still not sure how I will maneuver him back into a trap for neuter surgery, but we will figure it out. Once upon a time I had half dozen cats show up at once (two of them kittens). Had them all TNR’d. And the kittens went to my sister (bless her). One of the adult cats was a gray and white female. I was surprised when I saw a second gray and white cat show up at the dishes with the female (thought there was just one!). One day he, (Donny), showed up alone. Something had happened to his sister. He would come and wait for her for hours, it was so sad. He has been alone ever since, until now. Finally trapped him day before yesterday. UPDATE: Home with Jack. They said he has a mouth ulcer, but couldn’t give me anymore info. He’s super stressed and supper drunk. I have him locked in the big dog crate in OleMan’s apt. He is pretty desperate to get out, but I am afraid he will hurt himself. Have him and me covered with a blanket, playing soothing classical music for cats, nothing is working so far, he’s still circling, bumping his nose on the grate and falling down. Will hang out with him until he settles, (even though he doesn’t seem to be taking any comfort from my presence). Poor sugar bear. Thank you for the support and prayers ❤️

We got lucky with a cancellation and the new kid, Jack, is in for his neuter surgery this morning. (I hate this part! Scary for both of us). Send him love and calm ❤️ Crap, while I was typing this post got a call from the clinic. Jack has a grade two heart murmur. Gave them the go ahead to have him neutered, if the murmur has to do with stress, don’t want to put him through this again and he has to be neutered. Got him! Put some cat nip spray on a towel in a carrier and he walked right in. Such a dirty trick! He’s pretty upset, used to being a free agent and not happy at all about so much cat company surrounding OleMan’s apartment. Haven’t been able to find him a neuter appointment less than 11 days out, but will keep looking. Hate to keep him incarcerated (and away from his possible family) for so long, but I won’t get him back again so easily if I let him out now. New guy in the yards. Obviously tame, obviously packing. Been calling all over to find a vet appointment. Everyone is booked. The soonest so far is 2/15/23 at the spay/neuter clinic.
