Vienna (Material) Stories—final presentations

Snorri Vignisson
Humble Brick

Vienna begins in clay. It has shaped human settlement along this stretch of the Danube for as long as people have lived here. This elemental, modest material, transformed by labor and time, endures as a reminder of how deeply human history and earth remain intertwined beneath the city’s surface—and how they continue to give form to its spaces.

The project built with clay bricks excavated from the site of the abandoned Wienerberger clay pits connect’s architecture to the regional soils, and to a history and future of Vienna’s social aspirations.
