The bluuuuuuuuurbeeennnnnnning—this time from Mississippi enfant terrible, @snowden.wright (read The Queen City Detective Agency if you haven’t, it’s 👌🏻):

“At the start of Martin Scorsese’s concert documentary The Last Waltz, a title card reads, ‘This film should be played loud!’ That line came to mind as I read Adrian Van Young’s latest barnburner of a novel, Rough Beast. An insider’s take on the black-metal music scene and a love letter to the city of New Orleans, this big-chorded, big-hearted murder mystery is the perfect fix for anyone still strung-out from Sam Lipsyte’s No One Left to Come Looking for You. Van Young has crafted that rarest of things, a literary page-turner, the kind with the guts to have a plot and the soul to sheathe its characters in flesh, bone, and blood. Rough Beast isn’t music. It’s an entire sound, and that’s a ringing endorsement. Turn this mother up!” —Snowden Wright, author of American Pop and The Queen City Detective Agency

Another incredible weekend at the Decatur Book Festival! Saw some writer and reader pals, strolled around, got some delicious food, attended two excellent panels, volunteered at the Atlanta Writers Club booth, and debuted the new haircut. Happy 20th anniversary to a fantastic event! Already looking forward to next year.

I’m not sure what this face is, but I had such a great time at the @decaturbookfestival, hanging with authors and readers alike! Special highlights: dinner with @kimberlybellebooks @kairarouda & @kristina.mcmorris and getting the traveling arc of Sunburned back from my favorite bookclub!

1:15 - 2:00 pm
Global Panel
Panelists: Karol Lagodzki, Nana Nkweti, & Jianqing Zheng

Books take you places, allowing readers to travel the world in their pages – and often we discover how much we have in common. These authors from Poland, Cameroon, and China will discuss what makes stories both specific and universal.

2:00 - 2:45 pm
Mystery Panel
Panelists: William Boyle, Snowden Wright

The best mysteries captivate readers with iconic characters, shocking twists, and a compelling setting. These two writers will share how they create a strong sense of place, from New York City to Meridian, Mississippi.
