Many thanks to everyone who joined us for the finale 𝗛𝗮𝗰𝗸𝗻𝗲𝘆’𝘀 𝗟𝗼𝘄 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗯𝗼𝗻 𝗕𝗮𝗻𝗾𝘂𝗲𝘁 at Hackney Town Hall last Friday!

We welcomed 100 people from different walks of life - scientists, environmentalists, teachers, students, families, civil servants, councilors and mayor - who came together to enjoy a series of low carbon Chinese dishes developed with UK-based East & Southeast Asian communities, scientists and food writers over the past three years as part of 𝗟𝗼𝘄 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗯𝗼𝗻 𝗖𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗼𝘄𝗻.

At the banquet, each guest 'harvested' a cardboard stool with a unique climate action (making up 100 in total), deconstructed from '𝗛𝗮𝗿𝘃𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗖𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗔𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻' exhibition, and sat with strangers to take part in open discussion and provocations by several of our collaborators. Together, we explored questions surrounding how we tackle the climate crisis through our food system, what makes us willing to take climate action, and how to make our action sticker and impactful.

Massive thanks to my collaborators in this project - @hackneycouncil @growingcommunities @gainsborough_hackney @stephli401 @ander80 @loveleluu @bangkokdeliveryboy @lilwongbakes @design_declares @universityofleeds @designcouncil @studiomakecreate @usman_haque @so_klim @aceagrams

Who’s going to @groundswell_agriculture this year?

It’s a fantastic festival of farming. A celebration of soil. A paean to pasture. Okay, enough with the alliteration. If you’ve never heard of it look it up, it’s the 28th & 29th June - it really is a great coming together of farmers (and hangers on like me) who are seeking to do things differently - more harmoniously. The speaker list this year is extraordinary… an A to Z of who’s who in food and agriculture.

I’m going with @hodmedods, speaking about the work we’re doing with @uk_grain_lab on cereal legislation (see the third picture) - slightly terrifyingly it’s in the Big Top (11am on the 29th June), fortunately I won’t be alone and our brilliant panel (@turnersofbytham @edwarddickin @charlotte.bick @ukgrainlab_steven @fieldbakery @gothelneyfarmer) will be talking about our collective experience as bakers, millers, farmers, scientists, traders of working with genetically diverse cereals and why we’re pushing for legislative change to make it legal for seeds of these cereals to be traded and exchanged.

Do come and see us and help fill the tent - we’ll be giving out @fieldbakery’s delicious diversity digestive biscuits (damn, more alliteration…)

If you’re going to be there let’s meet for a pint in the Earthworm Arms! Groundswell sign - Hollywood hills style!
