Solène’s article is out on Kyoto Journal now so everyone please go check it out!!🩵🩵🩵(link in the bio)

Solène and I met through zoom 6 years ago when she was writing her undergraduate thesis on Afro descendants in Japan. We quickly clicked and continued the conversation since we both shared interests about Japanese and French subcultures(and mostly because she is SUCH a sweet person.)

Solène, I am so glad that I met you and that zoom interview turned into a meaningful 6 years friendship💐

Beaucoup de bisous and congratulations!!

For KJ 108 Cultural Fluidity, Solène Bouda @sobe0633 writes about the joys and struggles of the African diaspora in Japan. She conducted extensive interviews with members of this diverse and growing community. Her fascinating article is now available, free and shareable, on the KJ website! (Link in Bio)

“The experiences of African residents in Japan are diverse but they all reflect the fluidity of both African and Japanese identities… Africans are creating a new home in the heart of Japan, where cultures intersect, sometimes clash, but ultimately evolve together.”

The illustration by Ark Mirua @jeunnedark is of a dream she had that embodied the tensions between her multicultural identities.

Interview subjects include:
Ark Mirua @jeunnedark
Hapra @harriethapra
Chike @chike_uduma
Sena @voncujovi
Pele @pelegroso_

Solène Bouda is a French-Burkinabè graduate student of International Politics, who has lived in both Africa and Asia, and is currently based in France.

« lisbonne décousue » - juillet/aout 2024

oh douce lisbonne,
ou comment pleurer la veille
sur tes vagues
au souvenir de ma grand-mere.

et rencontrer le lendemain,
la grande dame nazareth
dans un glacier lisboète

: se prêter aux espiègleries
qui soudent les générations
qui boudent les incompréhensions.

retrouver loin de mon logis
un petit peu de ma mamie chérie ❤️‍🩹
