Had the pleasure of catching @whitecollar_za at @rumoursloungejhb this past Saturday.

Always rad to catch a new band and holy shit these boys brought it.

@sunken_state live at @rumoursloungejhb

Before this event, I had heard of Sunken State and how great they were. “I mean, yeah, I knew they had to be good with how big they were, right?” That’s the type of thing I’d think to myself.
But never in my life have I been more blown away by a set than when I saw Sunken State live for the first time (which was this event.)
From the intense, raw, gripping vocals, to the dirty bass lines, to the guitar riffs that were nothing but ear-candy, all tied together by on-time, powerful yet controlled drumming.
But they took it one step further… the stage presence was so electric that it was hard not to move. And the crowd? They definitely got the memo. Never in my life had I seen such a thing… a mosh pit to EVERY. SINGLE. SONG.
There wasn’t a SINGLE SONG where I could turn around and find people standing. No, every single time I looked over my shoulder it was to make sure I wasn’t being dragged into a visceral whirlwind of flesh, cutting through the air like the sharpest of razor blades. Photography truly turned into life or death.
All I’d heard from their discography was the Redux version of Crimson King. And that was enough to motivate me to put that song into picture through photography. I was blessed because Rumors Lounge always seems to be bathed in a red glow.
Heaven knows I’ll be listening to more of what they have put out, and will be eagerly awaiting their future shows.
Sunken State can be described only as powerful, every facet cutting deep into the hearts of their fans. And they’ve just gained one…
