🌍 GES Scholarship Spotlight: Nafisat in Turkey! 🇹🇷 For this week’s #WanderlustWednesday, we’re shining a light on LAS Global Engagement Scholar Nafisat, a Sociology major who spent Fall 2024 at Boğaziçi University in Istanbul. 🕌🍁 In her scholarship reflection, Nafisat shares powerful insights about identity, storytelling, and the meaning of true cultural immersion. 💬 “Growing up I was always the only Muslim African girl in predominantly black areas, and I was often asked questions, however I never got to be the one to ask my questions and learn from others...” She reflects on how her own identity and experiences led to immersing herself in a space where she could be the one asking questions, her journey abroad was about vulnerability, curiosity, and connection. 🌟 Nafisat writes about the risks and rewards of stepping outside her comfort zone—from navigating unfamiliar environments to building new relationships—and how those experiences deepened her global awareness. Her biggest takeaway? Everyone has a story worth hearing, and study abroad is a chance to truly listen. 🗣️💬 Thank you, Nafisat, for sharing your story and your LAS Global Engagement Scholarship experience with us! 🎓 #IllinoisAbroad #LASInternationalPrograms #StudyAbroad #GlobalEngagement #Scholarship #BogaziciUniversity #Turkey #Istanbul #CulturalExchange #WanderlustWednesday
