POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

as much as this morning didn’t go the way we wanted, there’s nothing quite like fourteen lads gathered round a fire, eyes locked on a small tv in the outer suburbs of the city, cheering on our socceroos at 4am.

true community is forged in hardships (as trivial as losing a football match can be) and the beauty of football is that it can teach you many lessons in this life about responding to adversity, celebrating the wins, challenging what we put our hope in, and the value of mateship.

as for the socceroos? they’re only just beginning. lucas, nestory, mo, cristian, ale, jordy and paul have big futures ahead of them. their time will come - watch this space.

it’s always fun to answer questions about the socceroos - after all, i do have a podcast dedicated to them and i’d like to think i’m fairly well informed. it’s especially fun when those questions are from behind a microphone and in a studio.

thanks for having me on today @abcbrisbane & @zachmander! i can only assume @schwarzer_mark was busy…

now, it’s probably time to get ready for bed before the socceroos take on egypt tomorrow morning

The Green & Gold Army has officially taken over San Francisco. 🇦🇺💚💛

The chant starts low, the beers go flying, the limbs start moving and suddenly the streets look like a Socceroos home game.

This is what World Cup football is all about.

Aussie fans are undefeated. 🐨🍻

25 years of choosing football, of choosing the @socceroos.

And now, here we go.

Our turn at the greatest show on Earth rolls around again.

My love affair begins in 2001.

It’s Kevin Muscat and a packed MCG, followed by Montevideo and Tony Vidmar’s tears.

Then, tears of my own in 2005. I cried so much, loved ones thought I’d hurt myself.

My first game: 2007 against Argentina, back at the MCG. A wide-eyed lad named Messi on the team sheet, running rings around names like Grella, Skoko, Culina and Beauchamp.

The freezing cold of 2010, watching Germany trod over our hopes and dreams on day one.

The promise of Ange’s boys in 2014, and THAT volley; leading the Netherlands. Euphoria.

Winning a home Asian Cup in 2015, and the trudge of 2018.

Then, what can you say about 2022? The greatest summer of football we’ve ever known.

And now, we arrive at 2026.

That anticipation you can feel? The one that meant I hardly slept a wink last night?

Let it wash over and consume you fully. It’s the most beautiful thing about our game.

And this year’s team represents the best of modern Australia. The one I’m proud to call my country. Home.

Learn the stories of these remarkable players. Then, watch the content, head to the fan sites, show your support on social media.

And once the party inevitably ends, why not stick around a while?

Head to public squares in the dead of night, dingy bars at 2am, meaningless friendlies and qualifiers in your city,

And better yet, follow those players in your own backyard. Support your local teams and leagues.

That very same euphoria which sweeps you up every four years explodes week in, week out, right here on our own grand stage.

And the people you meet along the journey in all of those places, might just make it the greatest pursuit you ever follow.

Let the games begin. Come on you @socceroos.

Congrats @nich_ray for winning the Young Player of the Year 2022 award!

This award recognises an U20’s player who made the biggest contribution on the pitch this season across the whole club and is decided on by the Executive Committee. They help raise the standard of the club with their skillset, their encouragement of others and their efforts on the pitch.
