Grace Hopper was canceled two weeks before showtime. In this week’s “Monday Brief 📰” Here’s the question every conference organizer should be asking.

For over 30 years, the Grace Hopper Celebration brought 20,000+ women in tech into the same room as 700+ organizations hiring. This year, AnitaB.org says registrations and sponsorships came in below what was needed to move forward.

It’s happening alongside a wider shift: women in tech are taking a greater share of layoffs, and 600,000+ Black women have been pushed out of the workforce since 2025.
What’s really going on?
1️⃣ Are conferences proving their value?
2️⃣ Are sponsors measuring the right things?

It’s not just who showed up but the value being created.

A great example of proving ROI, is how @afrotech.conference frames attendance as an investment with measurable ROI.
Let’s talk about it.
Were you heading to Grace Hopper? Have tech conferences helped shape your career? Drop a note in the comments 👇🏾

Beyoncé’s longtime Dance Captain has a message for creatives navigating the AI era. 👀
At @blackweekofficial , I caught up with @ashleycmeverett
to talk tech, artistry and creative ownership.

Her take: “You can’t replace true humans with robots.”

As AI transforms every industry, what we create is still uniquely human. Her reminder for creatives: keep creating, and keep owning your craft. 💃🏽

Follow @the.techjournalist for the full conversation with Ashley, dropping soon.

One week ago, we made history. 🏁
Atlanta’s first-ever tech-industry community 5K is officially in the books and this is the recap!

Tech Pros. Founders. Engineers. Students. First-time runners. Seasoned runners. They all laced up their running shoes and met at the start line on the Westside BeltLine, building the kind of community we set out to create from day one.

This was our founding year. What comes next is even bigger.
Thank you to everyone who showed up, ran with us, and made this real.

More to come! Stay tuned for more race day moments captured from our Inaugural Tech Race and our 2027 Tech Race date announcement.

Here it is. The full Tech Race 5K finishing medal, front and back.
On the back: “Building the nation’s healthiest and most connected technology community.”
That’s not a tagline we wrote for a race. That’s the reason the race exists.
If you’re eyeing your next race medal, this is one of a kind because each Founding Year Member participant will get honored in our founding year story, permanently.

Tag your running crew below that wouldn’t want to miss this 1 of 1 medal.

Note: to qualify for the finishing medal, select the standard 5K option, not the fun walk option.

4 days out. Link in bio. Let’s go!
