Last July, I spent an afternoon with SOFAISM in Khon Kaen, trying to fit fourteen people, a tiny pink sofa into the same frame.

-> Looking back to late 2025, we transformed the MAIELIE Khon Kaen space into a living laboratory under the exhibition title “Open LABs.” What began as a planned 6-week project expanded and grew alongside everyone’s participation, continuing its journey until it finally concluded in early 2026.
.
-> Throughout those two and a half months, we shared countless experiences that wove together the feelings, memories, and traces of everyone who passed through. From eating, drinking, enjoying live performances and music, and exchanging dialogues since the opening night; to cooking Larb in a circle and letting go of the past through henna patterns; opening our hearts to deep listening for collective healing while exploring our inner landscapes; and gathering our creative energy to build dreams that could save the world. We let our conversations flow freely in unstructured dialogues, unleashed our senses through experimental sounds breaking free from all constraints, questioned resources and funding in the art ecosystem, painted our calls for peace on canvas, and concluded by physically dismantling the exhibition while discussing the behind-the-scenes reality of “Art Labor”, where every drop of sweat and every voice was truly heard. All of this transformed this laboratory from a mere exhibition space into something truly alive.
.
-> We apologize that, following those moments, the TAPs team faded from your feeds. Real-life responsibilities pulled us away from our imaginative experiments. However, these past several months have been a crucial time for us to step back, process, reflect, and digest the vast amount of information, collective experiences, and profound emotions we carefully gathered.
.
-> Today, we are ready to return with a new chapter of TAPs’ experiments, starting later this year and continuing into the next. Thank you once again to everyone, those who journeyed with us and helped co-create our laboratory, the new friends we will meet along the way in the future, and everyone who has always watched over and supported us.
.
-> Please stay tuned for our upcoming movements and next steps. See you all very soon!

Introducing an artist participating in Pattani Biennale 2026

SOFAISM
Based primarily in Khon Kaen.

SOFAISM is an art collective formed by individuals from diverse creative fields who share a desire to “have fun with art” — free from the constraints and interference of institutional structures or the dominant art establishment in the country, which simultaneously dictates artistic direction while filtering who gets included or excluded.
SOFAISM seeks to create a “space of infinite possibilities” a place where people can create, converse, and connect as artists, makers, audiences, and more within a messy, dynamic ecosystem.
The name SOFAISM originates from an appreciation for furniture by the Italian design collective Memphis Milano, whose philosophy challenged Modernist ideals that prioritize function. In contrast, Memphis Milano emphasized playfulness, color, and expressive form over utility. The word “sofa” also evokes a space of rest, conversation, and exchange a comfortable and safe environment. At the same time, it holds a creative force capable of liberating people from structures that suppress desire and expression.
This leads to a mode of working that rejects rigid structures and is not confined to any single artistic medium. Instead, it expands into activities, experimental spaces, collaborations with groups and networks, and more — generating new forms that resist the mainstream within today’s fast-paced cultural ecosystem. It also reflects an effort to reorganize limited spaces so that people can coexist creatively and joyfully. - SOFAISM
