WATER HAS HER WAY WITH US (Malaysian Edition) ~ Meet the Reef Builders 🪸 A tender, oceanic offering came alive last month at @thediaspace. Have a glimpse into this gathering, and hear from some of the collaborators who brought it to life. 🧜🏻‍♀️ “Water for me is really a medium, a muse, a source of inspiration, a source of healing, a source of connection to what I can call divinity. For me, my connection with water is a spiritual practice.” Water Has Her Way With Us was a creative exploration of water through a Southeast Asian lens ~ moving through poetry, music, dance, and visual art, in honour of the coral reefs it was created to support. The event concluded with a Reef Star adoption through Coralku Conservation, and its impact rippled further, with coral adoptions continuing in the days that followed. WATER HAS HER WAY WITH US 🧜🏻‍♀️ A gentle and mystical event was co-created last Sunday at @thediaspace . People were moved by all the stories and sharing around water, the ocean and our relationship to nature. A unique and meaningful offering that flowed with music, mythology, movement, visual art, poetic storytelling, revolving around the inspiring consciousness of water. Interactive, collaborative and inter-disciplinary, Water Has Her Way With Us, was designed to honour the creative resilience and beauty of our ocean’s coral reefs.
 It’s not every day you dance with pearls with Qawalli sung by @l.santosh.music.l , or have your poem translated by @ninotaziz, accompanied by @zarul_albakri on an ocean drum. It’s not every day your event gets adorned by visuals from @harisrashid ‘s “Fluid” collection, or have @elliethopia share her passion for mermaid illustrations. To take part in a sweet water ritual and have @luvkalia move to the rhythms of the rain falling outside. 💧 To have micro-algae treats by @atoz.algaeeats , to browse @rhapsodyofnature.my storybooks, gentle tales weaving marine science and local wisdom for young readers, and to sit with @sofiaharon as she guided guests in painting delicate coral expressions.
 At the heart of it all, this was an offering to coral, and I’m grateful for @coralkuconservation ‘s presence in sharing the reality of restoration work. From their Adopt-a-Coral initiative to an immersive VR dive into their nurseries, I’m appreciative we were given the privilege to witness and hear their perseverance, dedication and love towards these fragile ecosystems.
 Holding my own intimate mermaid cove inside a reclaimed heritage shopfront beside Kuala Lumpur’s meeting of two rivers meant something rare to me. 🙏🏼 My creative practice from Melbourne finding its way into a south-east asian context. My way of dancing between worlds, with water as the fluvial tapestry that binds them.
 While princesses have their week in the spotlight, this mermaid poetess is slowly approaching the shores with more of her offerings, hoping her love for water can mirror the ocean’s own beauty and grace.🌊 With gratitude 🙏🏼🧜🏼‍♀️ 📷 @_lyon_lsy

Water Has Her Way With Us, an immersive experience in Kuala Lumpur.  On 16 August, part of the Dia Space will transform to celebrate  water as ceremony, sound, art, movement, and myth. Featuring a collective of remarkable Malaysian practitioners, we invite you to join us for this unique experience and cultural salon.  With expansive or co-created installations, live soundscapes, interactive movement, conversations and conservation, it feels fitting to host this at the Dia Space, situated beside Kuala Lumpur’s River of Life and within a revitalised part of the city, overflowing with heritage and renewed energy. ⏰ 1pm-6pm, Sunday August 16th 📍The Dia Space 🎟️ RM220/ticket, with proceeds donated to coral reef conservation Ticket link in bio, or DM @thediaspace @mermina.poetess for more information.

Back when we still had a TV in HuniSeni, this was the spot. The console? Got it from Ikea As-Is for a bargain. It’s the Hemnes TV console, made of solid wood with a black finish that really fits the whole vibe of our living space. Can’t remember how much it costs new, but we got this and a Hemnes bookcase for MYR 600—brand new, still in the box. Pretty good deal, right? After our Haier TV broke (twice!), we decided to switch to a projector, and honestly, the best decision ever. On top of the console, we’ve got some artworks (because, of course), the Ackja + Molnart table lamp, and a little greenery. We’re thinking of switching up the artworks soon for Ramadhan. Alia Ramly, CEO of Global Station Sdn Bhd @aliaramly Global Station Sdn.Bhd. is an award-winning production house incorporated in 2000 with numerous achievements as a major player in the production and distribution of Malaysian television programs locally as well as within regional and international markets. 2. Sofia Haron, Visual Artist @sofiaharon An accomplished visual artist born in Penang, Sofia is constantly moved by the uniqueness of females and their roles in the 21st Century, which greatly influences her art. She finds solace through a different form of communication with colours. 3. Dato’ Faridah Merican, Executive Producer & Co Founder, KL Performing Arts Centre @faridahmerican Our first lady of Malaysian theatre, Dato’ Faridah is truly a legend in her own right for her endless contributions to the local performing arts scene and the epitome of inspiration in nurturing young talents. 4. Christy Ng, CEO, Christy Ng Sdn Bhd @christyemilylove Christy has come a long way since 2012 when she started as a small business in her mother’s living room making women’s footwear. Her brand has now grown from their first store in 1Utama in 2016 to 7 stores across Malaysia and an e-Commerce platform which serves a global audience. 5. Juliana Omar, Director, Bake to Play Sdn Bhd @julianakhairyan Bake To Play, formerly Bisque Bites, is a one-stop solution centre for B2B dessert and cake supply which started in 2013. Fern Chua, Founder and Creative Director, Fern Batik Sdn Bhd @fernchua Fern started her eponymous label in 2013 to bring a contemporary spin to Malaysian batik.
