Three volcanoes. One lake. No road around it.

There is no ring road here. The villages sit on the shoreline between the volcanoes, and the only way between them is by boat. Two of them, San Marcos and Santa Cruz, are on your itinerary.

Save this one.

I don’t know why I can’t make a normal face when I am excited. The most Instagram-able thing I’ve done in life and I can’t close my mouth for a picture. 🥴

Tomorrow we start our voyage home. My heart is so full, but my goodness, I miss my boys.

Sumba gave us a glimpse into a completely different way of life. Here you are a farmer or fisherman, there is limited access to water, children start school at 7 and traditional village life remains deeply rooted in the culture. A lot of mixed emotions witnessing such contrast from home.

We learned about traditions around life and death, animal sacrifice, Christianity, Islam and Marapu ancestral beliefs. On the trees they grow jackfruit, mangoes, avocado and coconuts and learned about sirih pinang, the betel nut mixture chewed as a mild stimulant that turns the mouth bright red.

But the highlight? Finding a hidden lagoon and meeting a group of kiddos there. Of everything I’ve seen on this trip, those little humans will stay with me. My hearts with little Vita. ❤️

I also heard there is a 125 year old woman on the Island named Yora!

What a beautiful reminder of how big this world is and how much we can learn from one another.

Devotion is choosing to keep showing up. Not because it’s easy, but because something in us knows it matters.

And I think part of devotion is remembering we were never meant to hold everything alone.

There will be moments when what we’re carrying feels too heavy. When we can’t see clearly, can’t find our way through, or simply don’t have the capacity.

That’s when the circle holds it for us.

When one woman can’t carry it, the circle can. When one woman forgets who she is, the circle remembers. When one woman loses faith, the circle holds the faith until she can find her way back to it.

Maybe devotion isn’t always about being strong enough to keep going.

Maybe sometimes devotion is trusting the circle enough to let yourself be held.

Maybe the mountain isn’t in the way. Maybe it’s the way.

The strength. The surrender. The discipline. The faith. It’s all built on the climb.

Stop asking for an easier path. Become the woman who can walk the one in front of her.

YOUR FACILITATORS 🇬🇹❣️
Your guides are two Guatemalans, from very different backgrounds, but with the same intention and dream for the future. Together, they invite you into a rare opportunity to learn directly from the living spiritual traditions of the people of Lake Atitlán and rest in the beauty of nature. Thomas and Sofia work in natural rhythm. There is an ease and joy to it, as though they have been weaving beauty side by side for lifetimes. This retreat is a sacred, heartfelt offering that they are honored to share with you. Thomas is a Maya Tz’utujil spiritual guide (Ajq’ij) from San Juan La Laguna and a descendant of a long lineage of Maya healers and wisdom keepers. Raised within the living traditions of his ancestors, he shares Maya cosmology, ceremony, and sacred teachings with authenticity, humility, and devotion.
