Since March 1, I was an artist in residence at @artelescreativecenter in Finland. It was one of my most treasured experiences, with so many adventures and lovely new friends. I was supposed to be in Finland until this coming Friday, but shit got real. With 13 artists from 7 countries, I watched the Coronavirus drama play out from a global perspective. The last two weeks of the residency were a rollercoaster of border closings and flight cancellations across the world with limited chances to get back home. I left on Thursday and traveled 27+ hours straight to get home. From near-empty airports to people sleeping in closed restaurants to people dressed in full on hazmat gear, it was such a surreal experience. The work I started in Finland is still very much in progress, and perhaps it's something I'll work on my entire life. I'm not one for permanence anyway. Here are a few photos from the trip. #3 is the frozen ice lake I swam in at the public sauna (in public crocs of course lmao). The rest are random. Some are from dream and nightmare scapes that I created out in the fields or on the lake. So many photos on my phone. Maybe I'll post more later. When things normalize again, I would HIGHLY suggest Arteles as a residency to consider. Aside from being a place filled with beauty and inspiration, they have a truly stellar staff who worked tirelessly, especially to help us all find our ways home 💕 After flying through Helsinki, Paris and New York, I'm definitely on 14-day federally mandated quarantine, which means I can't leave my house even for picking up food or whatever you guys are doing, so you probably still won't see me for a while, but I'll try to give you some bits of story entertainment or maybe a livestream (if I can work it up to feeling social enough) before this thing is done lol 😷

Visitamos a la artista Solange Baques, que viajó a Finlandia para cursar una residencia en un pequeño pueblo del que no puede salir. Sólo tres residentes quedaron allí a la espera de ser repatriados. Mientras, continúa trabajando en su serie A través de la ventana, que expone en la muestra virtual de @fotemaartefotografico y participa en un libro de artistas varados por el mundo, que se presentará en Australia.
