‼️ Killing your lawn doesn’t mean getting rid of grass 🌾 In fact, native grasses are a keystone plant group throughout the California Floristic Province. Unlike non-native turf, they support some of the most biodiverse ecosystems on Earth, stabilize and build soil with their deep roots, and can even outcompete and smother weeds! 👀 Unfortunately, despite the critical role they play in basically every native plant community in California, our native grasses are under threat. Vast wildflower-studded prairies characterized by perennial bunchgrasses once covered 2 million acres in California. Today, less than 1% of these original grassland ecosystems remain. 😔 Thankfully, at our upcoming Grand Opening event “Seedlings & Symbiosis,” you’ll learn just how easy it is to propagate native grasses for your landscaping, habitat restoration, or guerrilla gardening project. One of our staff, Andreas aka @solarpunkfarmer will be leading a FREE workshop on California native grass propagation. You’ll even get to take home your very own baby native grass seedling! Don’t miss this incredible opportunity to learn how to work with this crucially important group of California native plants! Head over to the link in our bio to RSVP for “Seedlings & Symbiosis” to let us know you’re game to help us grow back our native grasslands! 💚 Images: 1. Come celebrate and see what we’ve been building!
We’ve been spending months propagating native plants, pulling weeds, planting trees, and digging swales.  Now, we’re ready to share with you a new vision for Sugar Bush Nursery - a space where we have rewritten the rules of raising native plants. 🐛 We are a carefully stewarded habitat where you can embark on an iNaturalist adventure in search of cool bugs. 💡 We are a demonstration site where you can find inspo for your brand new native landscape. 🏞️ We are a tranquil third space where you can come to read, write, and study amongst the wildflowers. 👨‍🏫 We are an outdoor classroom where everyone can come to learn how to restore California’s ecosystems to their former abundance and glory. You’ll see how we’re trailblazing a new paradigm for cleanly and sustainably growing native plants - no peat moss or synthetic fertilizers required.  Our approach honors and stewards the Earth’s gifts through the integration of natural farming practices.  We can’t wait to show you how we’re transforming invasive plants into fertilizer to feed our milkweed seedlings, building a Johnson-Su facility for producing compost biologically attuned to native plants, and how we are using all-natural and reclaimed materials for raising our nursery stock!
And best of all, you’ll get to enjoy live music and free vegan food while connecting with local orgs and your fellow native plant enthusiasts! Get ready for a fun-filled celebration with family-friendly activities, educational workshops, and a chance to get your hands on some wholesomely-raised native plants at a discount!

Well, what are you waiting for?  Head over to the link in our bio to RSVP to our grand opening bash - “Seedlings & Symbiosis!”  Entry is free!

Our Summer Series comes full circle, this is the final distro of our pilot program! We’re closing it out with @sfv_mutualaid, with fresh produce generously donated by @foodforward. 📅 Saturday, September 26th | 10am-12pm 📍 Reseda Backyard Farm, 7625 Wilbur Ave Last month alone, here’s what we accomplished:
🥬 7,335 pounds of produce kept out of the landfill (1,000 pounds more than our first market!!)
🏡 481 people impacted
🙌 19 volunteers who made it all happen Numbers like these are a reminder of what community power looks like! Our goal for this final distro: feed over 500 members of our community. Our need: volunteers to make it happen. Pick a morning or afternoon shift, link in bio under “Harvest Heroes.” Expect sorting, cleaning, box breakdown, and hands-on work getting food to our neighbors. Let’s end this pilot on a high note! ✨Know someone who could use fresh produce? Share this post and help us spread the word so we can reach as many neighbors as possible.✨ We’re hoping to bring this program back, so stay tuned for more information!

“Among the people of your culture, which want to destroy the world?” “Which want to destroy it? As far as I know, no one specifically wants to destroy the world.” “And yet you do destroy it, each of you. Each of you contributes daily to the destruction of the world.” “Yes, that’s so.” “Why don’t you stop? I shrugged. “Frankly, we don’t know how.” “You’re captives of a civilizational system that more or less compels you to go on destroying the world in order to live.” “Yes, that’s the way it seems.” “So. You are captives - and you have made a captive of the world itself. That’s what’s at stake, isn’t it? - your captivity and the captivity of the world.” – Ishmael, Daniel Quinn 🌲 Slide 1: @entomemeology #rewild #luddism #artificialintelligence #abolishai #antitech

"The single greatest lesson the garden teaches is that our relationship to the planet need not be zero-sum, and that as long as the sun still shines and people still can plan and plant, think and do, we can, if we bother to try, find ways to provide for ourselves without diminishing the world." - Michael Pollan 🌿🍀 Slide 2: @conscious.growth 3: @anarcho_gardener #guerrillagardening #gardenersofinstagram #rewild #greenanarchism #noplanetb

Agroecology for me wraps up perfectly the desire practices and multi species diplomacy of keeping both humans and the natural world healthy. Without ignoring that these environmental disasters are social ones too, balance and literacy to the world around us doesn't need to be utopian it's just a long and slow ever evolving process to build up what was stolen and continues to be targeted to create the isolation and dependency capitalism requires for exploitation Further information is available in the linktree in bio I will follow this up with techniques and planting styles #agroecology #farming #seeds #laviacampesina #syntropy
